Just supposin !. What do you reckon modern day entrants would turn up to race in if a Schneider Trophy race series was resurrected purely for seaplanes / amphibians ?. Would the current seaplane speed record get broken ?
I believe a scaled down replica S65 was built and flown for a few years sometime back in the seventies, does it still exist.
Cheers
Gary
I’d cheat:)
I was watching the Dambusters on DVD and it froze 15 minutes from the end. Maybe I shouldn’t’ve dropped it on the floor earlier!
Did it not bounce?

thanks for that info dairwin,
i will pass it on to Baxter to see if he can remember any of that.
M9119 had a couple of adventures then!
Also in his old photo album was a photo of the famous 453 Sq plane, the letterings being “FU-K”. He says where ever it landed, everybody wanted a photo of it. WHY ????
cheers
A photograph of that very Spitfire is on Ebay!
Thats FU-K
Upottery
As you may have already seen and just to add to……..
We only made it to the show with the exhibition trailer as Dave blew his Landrover up and it was too short notice to hire a second for the event. Just as well really as the sat/nav took us through Upottery itself which, as anyone who knows the area, realise how narrow the roads get!
XM692, will there be an event there next year as I will bring my Spitfire along if there is?
If anyone on the forum are in the Lytham St Annes area on the weekend of the 27th/28th June 09, I’ll be there with the Spitfire and exhibition trailer, helping the town raise money for their war memorial. Make yourself known.
We’ll probably end up in the Pub during the eves like last time!
Finally, the Hurricane is no longer at Spitfire Corner, I drove it up to Delabole yesterday afternoon, where she is now under cover awaiting further restoration.
cheers Baz
We made in the end.
Was nice to put faces to names, honoured my trailer was used as the dias for the dedication at the end, there was lots to see and do and I was very impressed.
Thankyou to all the friendly people we met and hope we could do this again!
( Bugler, spit man, spit!!)
cheers Baz
I’ll just check the weather…………………
Yep, it’s raining so we’re going.
To finish our day at Davidstow, the sun came out as we packed up, the drive back to Spitfire Corner was pleasant meandering through the country roads with our ‘Long load’ and our ‘wide load’ until we reached the A30 southbound.
Davids Landrover pulling the exhibition trailer let fly in a spectacular fashion with steam and water which ruined his engine.
We then spent the rest of the evening in a logistical operation recovering trailer and dead Landy.
It’s 07.00 now and I’m trying to decide whether to take a (and which)trailer to Smeathorpe this morning.
I’ll just check the weather…………………
Davidstow
Well, we made it to Davidstow, with both trailers, after negotiating the traffic en-route the Royal Cornwall show at Wadebridge. The moment we turned up – it rained. The rain only eased for the laying of the wreath at 15.00hrs then it continued raining some more. It was a poignant rememberance where Mr David Keast from the Davidstow RAF museum spoke some words over the memorial stone to a gathering of onlookers.
We were reminded that from this and other airfields on this day that many young men were embarked on the most historic invasion in history.
it ended with the words,
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.
……………….cheers Baz
and a couple of kindly fellas used to invite me over the hedge for a drive round in their BCU Land Rover… wonder whatever happened to them?!;)
Shhhhhhhh…………don’t tell everybody!:D
(There is a photo in ‘my album’ of that era, check it out)
cheers
Baz
Thought it strange, you always used to bang on about that Comet 3!
I don’t know why, but somehow I thought you had drawn the Comet, thinking of 2 C.2s together in pencil, must have been someone else:confused:
Well, they’re related!
Youv’e got a Comet 3 door in your back garden!
I’ve got the Comet 3 door……wonder where that came from?
Anyway you chopped my post, I was talking about artwork you naughty boy!:diablo:
Baz
Any one else have any ideas?
Steve
Artwork.
I’ve turned some of my illustrations into postcards/bookmarks these sell nicely at events etc. check http://www.wallond.com to see examples. Sadly can’t help with Comet as not my thing, plenty of artists on this forum who may be of assistance.
hope that helps a bit:)
cheers
Baz
I don’t know what a simple hanger say 120 foot square would cost but long term this is what we should be looking towards financing this as well.
Any one else have any ideas?
Steve
I’ve been looking at hangar space for a project at Newquay – £3 psf/pm…..ouch!
That could be your expensive bit.
cheers
Baz
Limitation for flaps is 160Kts
Normal unstick is 130 Kts
Safety speed is 170 Kts
Undercarriage limiting speed is 190 Kts
Stall occurs about 82 Kts depending on weight. So all fairly close together, take into consideration engine acceleration time and you could have a really bad day if you’re not on the ball.
Are you saying this is not the greatest choice for a drone, was it just the RAAF that used them this way?
not much on google
