We know how (not) to get rid of a Whale carcass, stuff it full of explosives!

True… Bell didn’t come up with the all-flying tailplane.
Curtiss (and NACA) tested that on the XP-42 in both a wind tunnel and in flight in 1944-46!
Note that the XP-42 first flew in March 1939, and it still had its original tailplane in March 1943.

Note that the first flights in the UK of an all-flying tail-plane were in October 1944 on a modified Spitfire, flown by Eric Brown.
Thus it was flying on modified prop-fighters in both the US and UK by late 1944!
All moving tailplane fitted to a D.H. 77 and flew 1929
…not pretty.

Just a thought, if you list it as a throttle quadrant from say, a Dornier Do335, Graham Adlam will almost certainly buy it…………………..:diablo::D

…….excellent:D
Drove down to Newquay yesterday and did a ‘run to the sun’ round town!
……the steep hill near RAF St Mawgan was ‘interesting’ with only the starboard brake working on the foot pedal, this was managed with plenty of port steering wheel application.
After snarling up the traffic in the town centre, I drove home with a 50 vehicle convoy, pulling over here and there to let them pass(!)
Have to admit, I’ve been driving that stretch of road for thirty years and only on a tractor do you see everything.
Anyway, next year, ‘run to the sun’ and ‘mini run to the sun’, I’m going to organise ‘Drive your tractor aimlessly round Newquay day’
Was quite amazed at the number of people who stopped me to talk about their affection to the Grey Fergie,……………’spose you could call them extractor fans.
I’ll get me coat….

Spitfire Pilot D.M. Crook (Faber) @1942
Easy to read autobiographic account during the Battle of Britain
…even explains his ‘blue on blue’ with a Blenheim fighter.
KIA in a Spitfire 1944
Good book.

Didn’t Mr Adlam have a nice shiny DFC (bought on the internet) that was a bit too shiny; where is he anyway not seen him here for a while?
