Granted we were not on our own but we appear to have been better than most at it.
At last!…..something we’re actually good at:rolleyes:

Might be worth trying something similar with different settings – it is amazing how often the numbers leap out.
I’m impressed!

I think the yellow sheet was a confirmation supplement added to the buff weapons competency folded card. We could not draw the SLR without one.
(However, there were another 2 SLRs in Air Traffic 24/7 in a gun rack which I had access to if needed, in an emergency)
IIRC I tucked the buff one inside the yellow one. I still have it somewhere.

Cranes were not a problem as many were folding tripods with a shackle and a pulley winch chain affair.
I stand corrected!:p
You got me doubting myself.
However, after thirty years, I found the very orders I carried that night.

Looking at the visible serial underneath the port wing I can just about make out K9##1.
Doesn’t really help alot though does it? 😀
Just a thought, this Spitfire is in ‘A’ scheme camouflage which would usually indicate an even serialed machine.

I don’t think there is an engine in it as I guess it was probably man-handled in sections and bolted together. Its not sitting on its undercarraige (sitting on jacks) and they may be ‘faired’ over to save weight.
The exhaust stubs appear to be angled down at the rear, indicating they are probably bolted to a bit of wood.
ISTR someone flogging a prop on ebay awhile ago labelled ‘Spitfire’ and that was a 2 blader similar to this…………..:p
I agree its a ‘K’ range (looks like a ‘K’ under the wing)
An after thought, the undercarraige is part of the wing, not the fuselage, so if man-handled into position, the fuselage would have to be jacked to fit the wings on.(couldn’t do otherwise without crane)

Found it!

I’ve seen another angle somewhere and the other wing is attached also it is a two blader but agree, a tad strange.
I’ll have a look round and see what I can find.

On guard.
Is it really thirty years ago?
This photo was taken after it was all over and we were guarding the area around Air Traffic, including the C.130s, through the night. I still have my orders/rules of engagement for this period which states….’if you recognise the person to be enemy, you are to open fire, without warning’….
I carried 60 rounds of 7.62 and on this night I had a (captured) .45 semi auto as well with about 30 in 4 clips, I also had use if need be a L32 5 shot semi auto shotgun with around 80 rounds of No1 shot.
We operated in pairs and carried a large radio, a clansman(?)
In the photo, I’m in front in the middle and with the guy behind me, just about to relieve the guards on the pan. The rear of the photo says simply 3.50am.
I vaguely remember it was b*****y cold 😮
