I shall be watching the programme very closely this evening. As I said, its a good job we have journalists like this, otherwise we the travelling public would never know.

This makes the airport sit up and listen, it keeps them on their toes, which is no bad thing.

Bring back Roger Cook, he wouldnt be afraid to confront the airport authorities or indeed the Department of Transport head on.

Well done to the journalist for exposing this. We travelling public need to be made aware of these apparent lapses in security. I strongly believe that security at regional airports is not taken with the same seriousness as at LHR and LGW, LCY!

Why dont they try their 738s? Why dont they try Manston or Jersey? Cmon Continental get real, the USA is your domain. Why you flying to ickle British cities?

Suprise, suprise. Where next for Continental Teeside, Norwich, Blackpool? They may find this route tough going. Take it they are using the 757 again!

Ive just booked a holiday to Madeira and am flying with Excel. I specifically chose this charter airline out of principal as it is one of the few which dosent charge you for a meal. I know its a charter carrier but the price was attractive and at least I will be guaranteed a meal!

I went years ago flying with Air Atlantis. Looking forward to my jolly holiday mid October, especially since my nanna is paying for it for me and me and partner are staying at a 5 star hotel. Yippy!

I am honoured to have been posting alongside an ex-Orion flightdeck member.
They were a lovely airline and I flew with them many times, usually from EMA but also from BHX and MAN.

We always took Horizon/Wings holidays which were Orions tour operating arm and they offered quality package holidays. I flew on Orion 732s mainly but also on the 7373s and on occasion an A300. The in-flight service was a joy, and the nice touches such as the boiled sweets very much remembered.

The cabin crew were very friendly as were the flight deck crew. Orion always allowed flight deck visits when appropriate and as a young lad these were very much appreciated.

A lovely company and those stewardesses kinky boots were fab!

My mam used to eye the hosties boots and once asked “where can I get myself a pair of those super boots” but was told they were specially designed for the airline!

They certainly get people talking though and create a bit of interest.

Kurmitz, what a brilliant reply. Read it and weep LBA boy and MANAIRPORT MAD some people apreciate my posts and like to wallow in a bit of airline nostalgia. The only reason you dont like them is coz your not old enough to remember the airlines and the times we talk of. I grew up with Orion, DanAir and the like, you grew up with MYT and JMC. Wait till you start shaving before you criticise haha.

I flew them many, mant times in the 80s. All I ever wanted to do then was fly on a new 762 of BY or an AE757 but all I ever got was Orion, BY, AirEurope and DanAir 732s, now looking back they were great!

I have never operated one. However, I made many journeys to the canaries and even Paphos in Cyrpus on 732s and never once had to stop en-route, plus before the runway extension at Funchal I got in there on a 732 of Air Atlantis something the new generation 737s wouldnt be able to have done!

Also I remember the Orion cabin crew unifroms and in winter the stewardess wore knee length brown leather boots with a big heel, very nice!!

Wrong! The 737-200 advanced could make the canaries with a full load even when operating from the most notherly UK airports, as BY and AE frequently did!

Two years study and I have never completed an airticket by hand, only for the purposes of examination. It was interesting for an aviation freak like me, albeit a bit dry!

The 737-200 which was the staple type of the charter carriers in the 80s was ideal fro this type of destination. It had the range to reach the canaries with full payload and was excellant at short fields. It could get in and out of the smallest holiday airports and because of its integral airstairs it was self-sufficient on the ground. Invaluable at remote airports with limited handling equipment.

The A320 and 737-8 are with over 180 seats now the smallest charter types and arent exactly as suited as the old 732 for destinations such as La Palma.

Good old Excel! I bet you ate your meal though LBA when you flew them, which incidentally, wouldnt have been from Yeadon with their 738 problem runway. Its hardly feasible or cost-effectrive to delay each departure to allow those brakes to cool!

It seems quite a few ‘buddies’ on here enjoy poking fun at me. I can take that, Im a big boy who can hold his own but what gets me is the way people giggle away in their groups, laughing at other members.

Also I think I have an inkling as to why you and the others like to constantly have a go at me and take the Michael, and it stinks!

Sorry to dissapoint you, you wont get that Whispa on FlyBe anymore, you wont get anything at all with your meal because there are no meals! I know how you feel, I am angry with them too!
