What a load of fuss about nothing! The ‘offending’ article simply states things in a tabloid manner, that said with poor / incorrect spelling . To compare a badly mishandled display manouvre as akin to the ‘level of risk’ incured in day to day commercial aviation is pretty amature.

What on earth is wrong with discussing a ‘public’ accident of this nature. If an investigation proves that something further afield was amiss then so be it. Nearly all accidents are pilot error, almost without exception when low level/display. I recall the nonsense that was posted after the Firefly/Dxfd crash. When anyone screws up displaying/beat up they knew the risks undertaking anything beyond their abilities. If a frank discussion makes one person think twice before doing something they are not cabable of doing then thank god. The hero-worshiping on here sometimes, when someone stuffs it in at a show, does no one any favours!

Hats off to Brooklands, they have achieved a great deal in a short space of time. Shame they did’nt get the Filton airframe and leave the bitsa at Filton, at least it was inside. **** poor effort from Airbus and again BA, get AF inside now. If all the effort to return it to the sky was targeted towards a hangar then surely something would have been done by now.

Some good points, plenty of hero worshipping b/s. Why are any comments implying any degree of poor airmanship where display flying is considered met with such hostility? A frank open mindset to such accidents does more to improve attitudes to display flying than head in the sand ‘can do no wrong’ ideas. The Black 6 accident was’nt simply the result of an ‘error’ of selection but a poorly flown pattern which anyone let near such an aeroplane should have planned into a routine. Open culture communication is the model that professional aviation aspires too.

    MEDIA

Tragic news on such a glorious day fro flying

Typical rubbish in media ‘hero pliot avoiding crashing into houses’. Don’t think the thing was under much control at all, lots of green bits on final for that runway. It ended up in someones back garden for gods sake.

At the end of the day use the OFF button. Sadly inevitable that footage of this nature will be used, screw up big time at a public event and the consequences are there for all to see.

    FlyPast

Agree with similar comments. FlyPast has let it’s standards slip over the last few years or so. Seem more interested in simply banging quick articles out rather than spend a little time getting the research done. Not another Warbirds survey, reminds me of the constant ‘Best of’s’ on the box, cheap article to fill the pages. Having been an avid reader for years I think that for a serious look at historic aviation Aeroplane and many of the American publications beat it hands down.

Can’t wait to see it her fly, looks stunning.

With regard to the ‘ill feeling’ sentiments I think that if an aircraft problem had directly led to the crash then it probably would not had been rebuilt; RR Spit and various Sea Furies including Paul Morgans. Sadly it was a pilot error that resulted in the accident. To get it flying once again is the best form of tribute.

Good call. Seems that the BAPC have contributed little in the way of pushing for lottery cash for significate airframes. Duxford and the larger estalishments no doubt have the resources to put bids etc together and good for them. Don’t hear of the BAPC getting involved though. The Trident at Heathrow and recent Beverley escapade are surely what they are mean’t to be for??

    SPIT 22

On a simliar vein anyone have any info regarding the late Jack Mallock’s demise in the Rodesian Mk22 that was lost in a CB whilst on a filming sortie in the early eighties. Saw the programme on the BBC many moons ago and would love to get hold of a copy(?), last sequence had to be about the most moving flying clip I’ve ever seen, quite something!

KODAK, I can’t for one agree with your comments regarding any level of comparison with Ray Hanna’s displays in general and the P38, P63, Invader and Firefly accident. Have you read the accident reports available of three of the four mentioned. OK the P38 & P63 reports don’t actually go as far as attributing the crashes bluntly to pilot error but both were flown outside of the pre-planned envelope with little regard to energy gates before they hit the ground. Whilst the Firefly accident speculation remains just that at the moment lets be perfectly honest I’ll be amazed if the conclusion is wildly different to those already mentioned.
