Could the other aircraft be a Robin?
Nice pictures.
Has the Heron G-AORG taken up residence at Air Base?
The Heron has been there a number of years now following a very major check.
Should Guernsey in the Channel Islands put in a request for one? or have they. am I correct in saying one of the squadrons has a close tie with Guernsey?
For a number of years thay have had a Nimrod doing a flypast at there annual air display.
We had a SATA A320 in this morning, the wind accross the runway meaning about 20kts with gust to 30KTS to 35KTS, when the aircraft touched down you would have thought no crosswind at all.
We have the EMB 195 operating in and out daily and there crosswind limit on a dry runway is 35kts? and that is a long thin aircraft.
I understand aircraft have a demonstrated limit by the manufactor and the company has there limits?.
Any crosswind above 25kts is a hand full, some aircraft handle better than others, looking at the picture the crew did very well, should they have thrown the landing away and diverted?? End result aircraft and crew did a good job but could have been a major disastor.
Could this see the dawning of Ryanair coming into the real world??
Or could this be there down fall.
The CEO has been and seen as a bully for some time, getting his own way.
The company has operated on a knife edge for some time to keep the prices down this might have to change.
As the saying goes cheap is cheap for a fare that is if thigs go to plan when they fall apart they do big time.
I read today there was some bully tacticts going on at Shannon and Ryanair will cut back big time from there shortly due to the cheap handouts they have enjoyed are coming to an end.
Providing the aircraft are complying by the rules of the air this is not an issue.
If one can prove the aircraft are breaking the rules of the air then you have cause for complaint to the authorities.
As been said you could move is one solution.
Some people live on islands around the U.K. and the local airport is very close to all
Think your self lucky to be near and airport or airfield as you can go on holiday a lot quicker than a large number of people around the country who have a long way to travel to get to an airport or even to catch a boat.
All ways sad when we here there has been a loss of life in any accident or incident to do with any aircraft not only an Historic or Vintage one.
I understand the Royal Navy Historic Flight use a Piston Provost for training as this aircraft has similar handling to the Sea Fury and a cheaper option.
Let hope the investigators find out a result on why this happened for the family’s
of those who lost the lives.
Aviation History
A couple of questions
Why was she aloud to get to this stage? does this prove she was not looked after as a gate guardian??
If so why have a gate guardian if the residents do not look after her.
With Lyneham due to close in the future you can see the aircraft has to go some where.
Sad to hear or even see another piece of British Aviation about to disappear never to be seen again.
Where is the fight spirit gone?? should the Government not support British Aviation history??
RPSmith
I know we have six Concordes preserved.
How about this, with the amount of money in the middle east they could afford to get one back in the air and use it as VIP transport and not be given the aircraft to have as an attraction???
This story comming out the same time as the first British built Concorde 002 G-BSST celebrates forty years of Concorde.
G-BSST took to the air forty years ago to day and the latest blow for Concorde is one might be going to Dubai as an attraction.
There seems to be a lot of money down there so how about them funding a number of them back into the air????????????
EN830
A few weeks ago I had a stamp catologue come via the post, in there a company was going to bring out some stamps for the 40th anniversary of
Concorde 002 G-BSSTs first flight. I was at Yeovilton three weeks ago on the aircraft but at that time I did not pick up she was due for a birthday party.
It is good to see there are groups and companies giving us the oppertunity to visit Concordes and see what the experience of this Super Sonic Airliner.
Now with the latest story of the Heathrow Concorde might end up in Dubai would be another sad blow.
Long Live Concorde
Good to see and hear a British registered Dakota still flying around the English country side.
Long may this continue.
Many years ago when the aircraft was on the display circuit we had the aircraft do a beat up down our taxiway at this sort of height at 600 mile an hour, looked interesting to say the least and a number of our aero club windows were close to being smashed.
That is avitaion and display flying of years gone how sad.
Flying Boat
You seem to be very excited that there are already 19 entrants?
We have to turn the clock back to when the aero club was by the fuel farm which is the airport social club.
The fuel farm was not there and in the 60s and 70s the Rally would be attracting upwards of a hundered entrants, yes one hundered plus aircraft would turn up.
So those were the days.
Shame now you are lucky to get between 30 and 40 aircraft but things have changed, not only the credit crunch but more choice of where pilots can go to to have a rally.
Anyway all the best
The tour we were on was the first of the day on a Saturday, there was only seven of us.
As you have to book in advance it is not one of thoughs you wait and see what the weather is on the day.
Reguardless of the weather, enjoy the time there an get some things from the gift shop to remind you of your day with Alpha Fox.
