At waddington there is a grandstand seating area for those who wish to pay extra, but a family this just put extra costs on the day out.
Yes tents are a pain and without tripping over the guy lines too!
We parked the car at duxford next to american air museum near front so sitting by that with windbreak up seats out in nobodys way.
But it’s first come first served to the front of the fence when they tie there chairs up there worse than the germans with there beach towels!
Doing a little more research found merlin pete = peter grieve his web site is v good he even goes to museums to help them to get going a static merlin! what a guy.
Lots of pics and found some others last night also thanks to the guy who mentioned e bay some there too.
According to duxford info on a merlin 168,000 were built and 55,000 were built in the states by packard under license.
Now if that is complete engines there will be spares too cylinder heads etc plenty of parts availble i guess.
I saw his dvd but never got back to buy one there only a tenner i’ll try e bay thanks.
You implied the idea was so simple why are you now backing off, perhaps because you have been shown to have shouted about something you know little or more accurately nothing about …..
Yes.
shouted? i mearly asked if this can be done as it seems yes im wrong in this politically correct country were in!
When im wrong i’ll say im wrong, however they still need painting!
easy…..have both!!:D
What is the spit made of?
easy…..have both!!:D
What is the spit made of?
Have you thought of becoming an MP ? You could put all your ‘expensive’ trips out on expenses![/QUOTE]
Lol. David your funny!
It seems i have opened a can of worms here so the modderator please feel free to deleate this post as it seems i have offended several people & newark air museum, also delete myself if you see fit.!
That was NOT my intention just to highlite the fact some require a paint job etc.
No im not going to do the paper work for the cadets. lol……………….
Legends as im sure your aware was £29.95 and too expensive however there is loads and loads to see it was a airshow!
John i know im going to get linched soon by my bo**ocks with a lightning wiring loom and hoisted up and pelted with old lightning parts hung from the vulcan!
But gentlemen please it’s only a old aircraft it’s not a way of life is it?
Some of you could try getting a sense of humour, i may not be as much into this hobby as some of you but what i see so do the rest of the paying public.
I know things will take time and newark are by now well aware so in time i’ll revisit, by the way was lusty lindy hand painted with gloss rollers?
You could do the same!
wv-903
yes maybe i came across a bit harsh there are some nice tidy examples in the hanger but im using the lightning here again it’s rough looking!
I have read that it’s next for painting which is great but would it have been next if somebody does not say anything?
Im nobodys nodding dog im not gonna bulls**t it up to make it look fantastic i was giving MY opinion, i also understand the problems with spraying i do work in a mechanical enviroment where similar work is done but im not saying spray it brush/roller paint it?
Take a look at lusty lindy correct me if im wrong but was this not hand painted some years back ie not sprayed? and it looks v good.
I know the staff are volunteers and work hard with what they have i can respect that i did speak to one guy about the vulcan he was a great help, but all im trying to say is “TIDY THEM UP”
A lot of folk who come to a museum will have no idea if it has the correct markings or paint scheme and will not care less but will prefer to look at a tidy example not one that looks like it’s spent 6 months under water.Lol.
Newark i look forward to coming back and taking another look when time permits and your hard work has been done pp.
Dave, I think PP is trolling…..Newark is a fantastic museum that does an auwful lot of great work in preservation…..
Tell me Mr PP, from your post I assume you are an avid restorer/volunteer at a museum or owner of a preserved aircraft?
With all due respect, I suggest you take remedial maths as more than 5% of the aircraft are in the hangars/painted/looking good. Your post looks like a deliberate troll to me….
Lol, ok i guess my percentage level was a bit far fetched there is some that do look quite tidy in the hangers the lightning outside does NOT!
And why not get them to paint it they don’t have to go up ladders etc but paint underneath the wings fuselage, etc.
No i would not volunteer i did at elvington years back for 1 year when time allowed but working weekends/ shifts was near impossible to attend. but i would if i did not.
No museum is going to spend the thousands on a proffesional paint job to one of these stuck outside are they?
So why not ask the MOD for any paint out of date etc the cadets would love the chance to paint it!
Did you miss the aircraft in the hangars? Don’t remember any of those looking unkempt! Are you seriously suggesting Air Cadets painting the aircraft with ‘scrounged’ paint?? I think your living in the 1970’s !
Lol yes i saw them in the hangers that was the 5% that had paint and yes let the cadets paint them they can do no worse than the very tired aircraft outside!
Whats wrong with the 70’s ? lol…………..
The weather looks dry for both days hotter on the sunday checked today.
The £21.00 gate admission was a bit steep for a poor show however the cheek of me i said to the guy selling tickets “any discount for raffars members”?, he said id charge you just £10.00 great and im no member!
The show was poor by the years past standards for the crowd of 70,000 so i heard on the tannoy it really could have done with less long pauses more vintage aircraft.
But im off to legends this sat/sun plenty of vintage there.!
