Also a Saro Cloud amphimian (G-ACGO/OK-BAK) of the 1930’s in the Czech Republic
The Ciervia C8 G-EBYY at Le Bourget, which I think is the worlds oldest rotorcraft?
Sopwith Triplane in Moscow(yes I know Hendoen has one)
Avro Baby G-EACQ(Hinklers record braker) in Brisbane
DH6 G-EAML wreck in the SAAF museum
DH9 G-EAQM in Canberra
Yes it is a CAA law. Anybody airside has to wear high viz jackets.
If you want to walk around such airfields as Shoreham,Elstree and Stapleford they are mandotory.

Thanks Niel, the one I was thinking of was in 98, god I must be getting old, feels like two years ago. They were then on Saturdays and wern’t strictly families only, anybody that turned up got in. There was a French Super Puma,German Bolkow 105, plus a selection of modern RAF and some civil including LY-ASA An2!! Hopefully it will make a return in 2004???

Nice pub down the road. I worked there 4 years ago and it has not got any better and it won’t for all the noise you make.Hendon is very different to Duxford, that is why I work at Duxford now. Fred and Harolds Naafi is the place to go if you want a nice food at good prices at a museum.
I was hoping there was, whats it called and which road is it on. Going there a week on saturday with the oldies.
Hendon is no diffrent to many public venues. They use contract caterers who are there to make money. You only get really good food when it is not contracted out and then they tend to care about the customers more.
Im going there in a couple of weeks and was wondering about food. Anybody know any pubs close by that do lunches??
No need to wait there is a fly-in on at Popham tomorrow, no heavy metal but could be some nice vintage. Thats if the weather clears up, and the airfield has not sunk in the mud!!
Happy new year to you all, im off to the pub shortly that overlooks a Lightning, two Hunters and various noses( and a Mig 21 arriving on Friday). What a way to see in 2004 in the home of British aviation.
I think the P2 fuselarge is metal skinned but woodern based, but I could be wrong! It looked in a hell of a state when I saw it a few weeks ago. Not much better than the Lightning and Hunter round the corner at Booker.
I thought it was a good museum and it was good to talk to the staff restoring the Spits. I was lucky enough to visit a week before it suddenley closed in 98??
Isn’t Culdrose strangely held midweek in July(or was that St Mawgan?). I would love to see more RAF displays pity they can’t rotate them round a bit. Why can’t one out of Odiham,Benson, and Brize hold one every couple of years? Benson was going that way with their large ‘families days’ that was open to anybody who turned up at the gate. Sadly the last one was about 5 years ago.
Hi the P2 outside is still there, although the museum has moved to Compton Abbas I think. That P2 was totally a replica, as it was woodern.
The hangar is still used by PPS. There is a very nice yellow Swiss AF Jungmann in there at the moment.
The Spit is AR213/G-AIST, probably one of the most original ones about as it has never had a rebuild .
Deffinetly G-BHTH and was taken at Oxford-Kidlington, I seem to remember it being based there in the late 80’s.
Just down the road from me was a resturant called ‘Dakotas’ and obviously had many dak parts incorporated in it. The nose was by the bar with fuselarge skining, props, undercarriage along the sides. They put the tail section in the ajacent lake but after many reports of downed aircraft it was removed! It closed down about 18 months ago as the food was never up to much. The dak parts went to the RAF museum(they had come from Malta) and thankfully its a much better pub now!Mmmm could do with a pint!……
Also not too far from me in Woking there was a bar with a Buccaneer over it, and a Hunter on a stick outside, no I haven’t been drinking;) . The Hunter is still there , the Bucc(XX895) left a few years ago. There is a photo in Wrecks And Relics 17.
I have never been to the show but have been to LFA about 4 times. Last one 4 years ago. Its a hill top grass strip and can take up to DC3/JU52 size aircraft. The museum is excellent all packed into 3 hangars with no barriers. Lots of WW1 replicas and 30’s light stuff. Also Yaks,P51,Fury etc. I guess for the show most of it is pulled out? If you get the chance go exploring behind the museum in the woods. Last time there was a hangar full of ex Egyptian Yak 11’s and 18’s. And the woods are littered with scrap in the shame of Harvards and Nord 1101’s. If they have tidied it up reciently its a big shame.
The HT2 is more of an Indian Chipmunk. The HT2 remained in production for quite a long time, first flew in 1951. Hindustan did licence build the Prentice though in 1949. They also built the Kiran, a Jet Provest copy.
Yes I think the Alize is better looking than the Gannett, and I think its still in Indian service??
The Rapides and Daks have been in commercial service for 50+ years so I guess the paperwork is allready in place. The Comet has not been in civil service since about 1978 so things will take longer. I would guess getting a permit to fly for use in shows would be alot easier than getting a C of A for pax work. Obviously it would not be in true commercial service just operated on a similar basis to the Air Atlantic Daks when pleasure flying.
It would be great to see her back in the air. I have great memories of seeing the Farnborough ones in the circuit in the 80’s.
However the only way this project seems to be viable is if she is used for pleasure flights and not purely for show appearances. But would the CAA allow this??? Is it still planed for her to go to Lasham for certification if all goes well?
