Dave,
I’m sure if look around this web site you’ll find my previously expressed views on sub standard work hiding behind the facade of entertainment.
Sadly, poor work remains just that, and good entertainment stands alone for what it is.
Having said that, this film hasn’t been made yet so I accept that we don’t know.
The bottom line for me is this, I don’t give a monkey’s about Mum’s and four year olds being entertained. Just DON’T insult the people who were there by making cr*p.
Recent examples include Pearl Harbo(u)r and Flyboys.
People died, so other people could make cr*p ‘entertainment’ about them–that’s what we’re saying here, is it?
Oh and I forgot, making a fast Buck too.
I once read a review of the original Dambusters and it used the word sympathetic. That’s a quality I doubt modern film makers even begin to grasp.

Hornchurch et al.
I’m reliably informed by the mass media that Peter Jackson is cinematic genius. Why therfore does he seem to concentrating on remakes?
I wouldn’t claim to be an artistic genius because I completed a painting by numbers kit of The Mona Lisa.
After all, Steven Spielberg seems to be able to come up with fresh ideas fairly often.
Andy
Gotta choice haven’t ya?….don’t watch it, and you won’t be ‘offended’ .
Dave
I probably won’t!
But, it’s not me that should be offended, it won’t insult me.
A.
I agree with MOTF.
I’d go further, there was nothing wrong with the original.
In my opinion it shows the level of indolence, that the modern film industry has descended to, in that they can only do poor remakes of old films.
Mr Jackson, why don’t you go away and do some original thinking?
Leave ‘The Dambusters’ alone and come up with something new.
You won’t make a better film than the original because Michael Redgrave passed away some years ago and Richard Todd is over eighty and I doubt any modern git with highlights in his hair will do as well.
Andy
Perhaps he’d borrowed someone else’s dentures.
I wonder how much happier these morons would be if the airfield closed and was turned into a large housing estate or better still a camp for migrant workers or even better still a permanent site for travellers (pikeys to us unreconstructed types).
I understand that the NIMBY contingent around North Weald soon changed it’s tune about that ‘horrid airfield’ when they found out that Uncle Prescott was planning to dump thousands of the great unwashed from ‘the estuary’ on their doorstep.
Some of these people would find something to moan about if they lived on a desert island.

I blame the wardrobe department. Your time shall come, Herr Jones.
Strangely Damien, I thought I’d suffered at your hands on numerous previous occasions. ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ
The bloke in the third one who’s pointing upwards looks like an overstuffed teddy bear… ๐ ๐ ๐
I now expect to have to take cover.. ๐ ๐ ๐

At 36 he’s still too old.
Apparently Ralph Fiennes is playing Captain Roy Brown.
Surely then they should be making a film about the oldest fighter pilot on the western front??
Fiennes is 44.
Still, I hold out slightly more hope for this than I do for the recent Flyboys nonsense.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! Be interesting to know where these UNFOUNDED
rumours start from!!!!
Oi! Fluffy,
Well you’ve been sold, now you’re moving.
What next do ya reckon??
Sponsorship, move to front line status, excommunication, elevation to the sainthood???
You heard it here first folks.
A.
I think you’ll find Lanoe Hawker was killed.
You are correct, there were some disgruntled mumblings from France about Leefe Robinson winning the VC, where it was said people โwonโ it everyday.
And yes, as a โrewardโ for his Zepp hunting achievements, as well as the VC, he was given a flight in 48 Sqn, which was off to France with its new Bristol F2.Aโs.
On their first trip over the lines they ran into Jasta 11 which was the Richthofen mob and suffered four out of six aircraft shot down.
This was mainly because the crews of the Bristols flew them in a tight two seater like, defensive formation instead of using them as a fighter with an extra sting in the tail.
Leefe Robinson was taken POW and it is said was particularly badly treated by the Germans because of who he was.
He was I believe quite an ill man when finally released and died of influenza shortly after the end of the war.
Cheers
Andy
Yes, I’m inclined to give it a chance too.
At least it isn’t bl**dy Americans winning the war for everyone else like ‘Flyboys’ appears to be.
And despite their much bigger budget the CGI looks cr*p too.
Andy
Well…blow me down! Had me totally fooled, old chap. Seriously….thank you for bringing some much needed light relief to this thread last night. Can we all go to bed now please? And another thing….its been so noisy these last few nights. The sound of so many rattles being thrown out of so many prams has been quite deafening. Funny though, I’ll kind of miss it if its all over! Andy Saunders ๐
You can always start another thread you know.
Plenty of contentious subjects out there.
