Yes and while we’re having a moan and people are banging on about a dilution of content and people leaving.
A friend of mine, who also happens to be a well respected aircraft engineer was banned from here not too long ago and that has nothing to do with other forums.

It’s people like him that this place ought to be trying to keep hold of–not chucking out.

I suspect his very realistic view of aviation preservation (and many of you would give your eye teeth to know what he knows) didn’t fit with the philosophy here.

Personally, I can’t see what he said was any worse than much of the inane rubbish that’s written here.

    Cheers

    Well, what is the cost?

    You’ll get PM-ed.
You both know fun isn’t allowed here.

I bet I am not alone in reading these arguement threads for their amusement value.

It sure as hell beats telling young people they are dying. 🙁

    Perspective people.

    DS

    DS,
that’s a hell of a job you do there!
As far as this little Eisteddfod goes I find stiring the pot here sometimes makes it better still–funnier anyway.
Some people seem to have forgotten that aviation is a hobby and should be fun.
Apparently there are people here who think it should always be serious.
I even got a PM recently saying that I carry ‘a deadweight of a past approach’–whatever that means.
I think it means he doesn’t understand my warped outlook on life.

    His problem , not mine!

    Love you all

I’m quite happy to say plenty of bad things about XH558 and it’s adherents.

How about a total and utter waste of money and resources.

    There see, and there’s more.

When it fails and falls flat on it’s face as a project (which undoubtedly it will) the cynical media will go into overdrive and no one forever more, however worthy their case may be will ever persuade the HLF to part with a farthing of cash.
Therefore putting back the case for making historic aviation a cause for serious preservation for years to come–probably forever.

At present aviation in this country is seen as the domain of the rich with money to burn–with the pending demise of this fiasco–it’ll remain that way.

    Pleased??-you should be.

Well to respond I really need to know details – are we talking a third? A quarter? Obviously I wouldn’t like to tax it too much by responding without full knowledge of the actual depth of the insult, which is of course particularly cutting, coming from somebody who has basically signed up here purely to bitch and whine at people.

Doing fractions must be difficult or arithmetic of any kind…!!!! 🙂 😉 🙂 😉 🙂

Damien, I am not confused at all, and if you had half a brain cell, then you would know what an AE Ldr is. I have nothing whatsoever to do with VX927 other than the fact that we both appear to live in Lincolnshire. I was merely refering to your rude and inappropriate comments to him about ‘rape’ of all things!

    Damien,
it appears you have less than half a brain cell.
    How does that feel exactly??

    Love
    Andy.

PS. Yes, of course I’m stirring. It’s such fun.

    Mid Life crisis?? 🙂

Probably yes, but it’s still more exciting than the other two options.

Another dull Sunday for Andy. Have to get your own tea though, won’t you.

Only two words apply to this situation:-
    Harley Davidson.

I will be out on it–regardless of football or flying fag-ends.

    Later.

Gnome et Rhone did produce motorcycles under their own name.
Although, I thought they started after The Great War and they were a nice, quality product.
I think from memory they were parallel twins or maybe a V-twin.
This looks as young Hiscock says a bit agricultural.
Perhaps a purpose built engine??–I’d love to know.

The ‘bombs’ used by the high level ‘Kates’ were I believe conversions from 6″ naval shells.

The theory about the black powder is generally believed to be accurate.
Only two ships were not salvaged from Pearl Harbo(u)r, the converted target ship (had been a battleship) USS Utah and the USS Arizona.
The Oklahoma which capsized (also with heavy loss of life) was salvaged but not returned to service and the West Virginia and California (also both sunk) were salvaged and returned to service against the Japanese.

There was another ship there that day. The Brooklyn class Cruiser USS Phoenix, she survived the day with a dent caused by shrapnel in a secondary gun shield.
Forty one years later she ran into two torpedoes fired by HMS Conqueror
off the Falklands–of course by then she was called The General Belgrano.

Oh and the Oklahoma rolled over the wrong way.
Somehow by sheerest chance I caught fifteeen minutes of this.
I’d heard it was bad, terrible even–that’s not even close, it terrible beyond words.

What were you doing on New Year’s Day?

About 140mph with your bum a few feet off the ground and nothing to support you.

Not even a Rearwin it seems!!!!
