Yes, we used to have forum meets but those that met were accused of being a clique.
So they cleared off and formed their own forum.
This place is the poorer for that.
Later.

My dad, ex-Pvt. Harry Jones also celebrated a birthday this week (April 10th).
He’s a youngster at 83 years though.
Harry served first with the Suffolk Regiment and later with the Air Formation Signals in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, winning a mention in dispatches and getting himself wounded too in southern Italy.
(His evacuation to Durban, South Africa on an Italian hospital ship is an epic in it’s own right)
He still gets wistful at the sight of a Dakota (also a Jeep and a Thompson sub-machine gun).
Me ,my wife, my sister and her partner will be seeing him on Saturday.
Mum (77) will be providing lunch.
Thanks
Andy
It does say in the note from Flypast that it’s not their decision, it’s a change of policy by the IWM.
Probably put the ground rent up.
Is it really that much of a loss–it’s one less tent on the flightline and most of you people belong to every organisation there is, so you can use one of the others.
Andy
I hate to bring pubs into this but what state is ‘The Comet’ hotel in these days.
When I was a kid it was a great landmark on the road to London, last time I went that way it looked like a wine bar or something had taken it over.
Andy
Suez affair, 1956??
There was a parachute drop there.

I’d say money and quality engineering keep planes flying, any idiot with more money than than sense can buy a plane but you cant buy skill.
Of course you can buy skill–it’s the World’s most saleable commodity–in any field.
If you have a skill, you sell it to live.
The rarer your skill, the bigger the return.
Bomberboy.
You’re not supposed to ask questions like that. Previously they threatened to scrap her if funding was not forthcoming. Does that threat still hold true today? Why does no-one from the organisation come up with any definitive answers?
Effectively, they claim that 558 was bought for the Nation, why then won’t they keep the Nation informed about any progress (or lack thereof) as a matter of course? One would expect a greater degree of transparency in their operations. How can they expect people to keep supporting them financially when the ultimate goal of seeing 558 in the air isn’t getting closer but slipping further away?
Perhaps if they were open about exactly what kind of help they needed and what they could offer in return, some further sponsorship to cover the shortfalls might become available.

Kev,
I fear slipping further away is closer to the truth than we might think.
It doesn’t matter if it’s £350 or £400 hundred grand that’s the shortfall.
It’ll be almost impossible to raise that figure without corporate sponsorship.
The longer it takes, the greater the costs will escalate–through inflation if nothing else.
I just can’t see the sums adding up.
I’d actually be quite impressed to see this project work but it’s money–as always that’s the problem.
It’s money that makes aeroplanes fly–simple as that.
Andy
Paul,
I had a look at your website but can’t see this particular print.
Is it going to be for sale?
Andy.
The website gives £350,000 needed by March this year.
Not a lot when you say it quickly–is it???
Just seen these.
I like them too.
Especially the Deuce.

You wear modern stockings and suspenders? 😮
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch one of your Old Warden displays in quite the same light ever again.
Moggy
Yes, you should hear the language when he snags one on that little catch on the entry door to Magister… 😀 😉 😀
Personally I can’t believe why people who don’t see this as viable just walk away shaking their heads. It’s not as if your names are going to be on the side of the damn thing if it fails. I personally have more respect and admiration for those who try something- no matter of how difficult- and fail at it than I do those who just say that it’s all rubbish and tosh and are proved correct.
It’s precisely this reason that enterprise is dead in the UK. Too many damn pessimistic nay-sayers.
Good luck to anyone who tries to bring Concorde back from intensive care. You have my backing, admiration and respect.
BARNOWL
I disagree Barnowl,
I’m cetainly not a pessimistic nay-sayer, especially where a business opportunity is concerned but I’m also a realist.
Think about this for a second.
These people take money off people claiming to have a project and then nothing happens–people never see their money back.
Next time there’s a real project with some prospect of success–no one wants to contribute because they’ve been burned.
Think back to the criminal activities of one or two Vulcan groups a few years ago and you’ll see my point.
It gives what many honest hard working people are trying to achieve in preservation a bad name.
The media see it as a joke and the whole historical aviation scene in this country takes another step back.
That’s why they anger me.
Andy
Am I alone in thinking that Susannah York isn’t really that pretty? I mean i’m sure she’s a nice person but if you ask me i’d rather sleep with Michael Caine (and no, i’m not that way inclined)
You are a callow and gauche youth.
If she’d have ever have given me that little pout and then said, “I’ve travelled forty miles and booked a room”, I can tell you all Goering would have shortly after received a telegram saying:-
‘Please postpone Adlertag for twenty four hours-STOP-Busy sh*gging Section Officer Maggie Harvey-Stop’.
What was the Christopher Plummer character gay or something??
Andy
Gary,
great picture.
You’ll get Moggy all excited.
