Wouldn’t you prefer a wooly jumper?
Sheep again!
If this forum had a logo it’d be a sheep.
And not all Englishmen with good taste in beer are beardy cardigan wearing pipe smoking real ale swillers. That stuff is worse than drinking the urine of a diseased mountain goat. Nah, give me Belgian, and give me more!
“I don’t like you any more.”
But you still find me gorgeous i’ll bet.
Right, I’m out shortly.
Where’s me f*cking cardie?? 🙂 🙂 🙂
and if they had done so, then I’m sure I wouldn’t be writing this and the HLF would have come to the rescue by now – as part of either the Hendon or Cosford upgrade.
Why on Earth would the HLF stump up the cash for this???
I actually believe that the HLF is viewed by many people as some sort of ‘crock of gold at the end of the rainbow’–if only we could get there all our troubles would be over.
Crock of sh*t more like.
thanks for that – I’ll just put on me flat cap and clogs to take the whippet for a walk, have a pint at the WMC and then come back and top myself by drinking 40 pints of Stones and smoking 35 packets of cigarettes followed by twelve fish and chip suppers at Harry Ramsden’s in Guiseley
Can I still visit Duxford once in a while? :p
No, but what you relate about life up north isn’t unlike the early life of Rob Leigh. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Irish Mixed Grill?
Roast potatos, mashed potatos, fried potatoes, boiled potatos and chips.Irish Cocktail?
A pint of Guinness with a potato in it.
Definition of an Irishman??
A simple device for converting Guinness into p*ss
😀 😀 😀 😀
This is heading back towards Sheep!!
No, inflatable Sheep…

The Royal Air Force Museum is a national institution responsible for protecting our aviation heritage. Back when the Beverley was scrapped plans were already being drawn up to improve the facilities at Hendon and Cosford. My understandind is that lateral thinking was not applied nor suggestions or offers of support taken onboard. The Beverley was scrapped because it was a large, ugly transport aircraft and not a sexy Spitfire or Hurricane. I take onboard suggestions that it was in poor condition, though I have yet to see the inspection report.
The RAF museum has its faults but the Beverley was not one of them. Throwing unresearched brickbats at national museums on public forums does nothing to make them listen when there are issues that need to be addressed.
If the buggers can get away with it once, they can get away with it again. Take for example Duxford’s Comet C2, Cosford’s Victor (scrapped because the nose was moved to Hendon – I would have stored the nose-less airframe at Cosford). You don’t have to display an airframe – just store it for future generations – look at the main national museums and the stuff they have in store.
Here is JDK’s comments about the Beverley from a thread just over a year ago.
The RAF (NOT the RAF Museum) owned Hendon’s Beverley, and didn’t look after it. When it was well past saving (rotten throughout) they gave it to the RAF Museum, who had no choice but to scrap it. A smooth Civiul Service style dump and run.
True, the RAF did own the Beverley but when it was scrapped it was owned by the RAF Museum. Taking it apart and storing it onsite was the most viable of options, and if they had done so, then I’m sure I wouldn’t be writing this and the HLF would have come to the rescue by now – as part of either the Hendon or Cosford upgrade.
But why did it need to be preserved–or for that matter any Beverley?
Not a very significant type historically, ugly and big.
It’s not as if there isn’t any record of the thing in service. What do you think future generations would have learned about Britain in the second half of the twentieth century had it survived?
That we were already lagging behind technologically perhaps, or a colonial power trying to punch above it’s weight in World terms?
Philip, you tell me, I’m not convinced we need to preserve every piece of junk Her Majesty’s armed forces ever operated.
Andy
You’re surname may be Welsh but that doesnt make you Welsh I’m afraid. Try getting a UK passport “because I have a Welsh surname and I can trace my back to sixteenhundredandfrozentodeath”. Nope you just need to be Ethnic Albanian to qualify these days.
Nick
you can always get sh*gged by the home secretary. I believe that gets Visa applications ‘fast tracked’–That’s a horrible expression don’t you think?
You’re assuming I know what ‘the potteries’ is…which I don’t…no points on that one.
Josiah would be the ‘americanized’ name…could have been a lot of other things. The Morris name is definitely Welsh, with a few other influences. Have done the (exhaustive) research on it for my family…which is what makes all this crap from you lot rather aggravating…must be a JOY to hear that. Either that or I’m feeling today like AIB did the other day, just have no sense of humor today…

Mark, Mark, Mark,
calm down please. The fun of this forum is that we all have to take a turn ‘in the chair’–tonight it’s your turn. Sometimes it Patty, other times it’s me or Rob or Nick.
We can’t chose when it happens–it’s decreed by higher authority.
It’s all part of growing up and being thoroughly British.
English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, we all get our fair share.
Oh, and of course Americans–we’d hate to leave them out.
Or in the words of our great mentor, the potless Melv Hiscock, ‘If I didn’t like you I wouldn’t take the **** out of you’.
Later
A…
GOOD. Now that that’s settled, anyone care to discuss naked women?
Any sort in particular???
Don’t be stupid.
Who’d pay to see a hessian-wrapped box at Legends?
Moggy
Oh, about half of the daft f***ers that frequent this place I would think!!!!
Ok, I give up…won’t learn a new language or anything new about the world, will just remain a closed-minded American stuck in our own conceited ways, buggar all the world and the hell with you lot…some of you really are impossible to work with or learn anything from….no wonder the Welsh are constantly pissed at you and snigger on behind your backs….

Nick, Robbo, we’ve got a bite. Who’s going to reel him in??? 😀 😀 😀 😀
Mark,
See my earlier E-mail. 🙂 🙂 😉 😉 🙂 🙂
Don’t worry Mark, Andy’s a plastic Bedfordian, having been born in Naaaarfolk.
Robbo, is of course a ‘Plastic Southerner’ coming from a small town up’t North, where mushy peas are considered ‘middle class’ and self abuse is the only entertainment since the Roxy cinema closed down in 1953.
But you were not and if you were to take a little time and effort you could research what actually happened and not trot out more of this garbage. I’d actually question why it needed to be preserved.
I have just started digging a pond in my back garden and have come across what appears to be a box wrapped hessian. Should I be
1. Committed to an asylum for digging anything in this weather
2. Putting an add in Flypast offering to sell the information
3. Offering to book it for Legends.Answers on a postcard
Will it flying at Legends???????????????
