Andy, the point that you makes demonstrates, I suggest, the distinction between a private (which, although a charitable trust, is what the Shuttleworth collection is) and a public (which is what RAFM is) collection. The private collection is answerable to no-one but its trustees (plus, perhaps, the Charity Commission) whereas a public (and national) collection is answerable to all the British public (which includes those who post here).

Yes but whenever anything is ever mentioned here as going abroad from the UK all the people moan and groan.
Have you ever considered that they might be going to a better home than they actually already have?
After all, Jackson will probably rebuild the Farman to flying condition. Just like he did the BE2C which languished in a shed at Salisbury hall for years and years.

As to G-ADPR, it was disposed of by the Collection some years ago now.
To be honest, to most people who attend shows at OW, it was just another private aeroplane, and I’m not certain it isn’t actually in a better place from point of view of long term preservation now.

Ah yes, now I see. Only one Spitfire is required in the RAFM collection. The rest are just duplicates and so should be made available for disposal. Isn’t logic a wonderful thing!

you seem to be getting very incensed about what is at present largely surmise.
As someone said above, until we know for sure, I shouldn’t get too upset.
Then even if it is all true. It’s not as if the aircraft in question are being scrapped.
They’re just going to another museum.
In due course–buy a ticket to NZ.
If I got angry about everything that’s left Old Warden over the years and ranted accordingly, we’d still be here at supper time.
Fortunately most of what has left can still be viewed in other museums and this provides a nice trip out occasionally.

Back in March, with the weather warm and dry, the phone was happily ringing, now with a very wet and cold april, no one much is thinking of biking I suspect.

Jackson doesn’t need the RAFM LVG C.VI. He’ll be getting a much better example from elsewhere.

There’s also no confirmation yet aboutb what might be leaving these shores and what might be arriving.
Personally, I’d be happy to see a Snipe at Hendon to go with the other Sopwith types.

As to the Hanriot which has been rumoured to be leaving, it has little relevance to the RFC/RAF–they never operated the type.
If it has a British relevance at all, it should be at OW, as it was once owned and flown by R.O. Shuttleworth

I do agree though (and know) that aeroplanes are somewhat some more complicated than bikes.
I also see it weekly at the collection.

It was a damp barn though with an open window next to it…..

When I got one of my VF1100’s home I found the ‘previous expert’ had been riding it with the rear brake caliper seized on.
The disc was down to 50% of it’s minimum wear limit.
So that landed in the scrap bin.
I revived the caliper though after much heat, freeing oil and and a hammer and driving bar–just add swearing.
Sadly though, that bike has had a hard life of neglect and I’ve ended up stripping it completely. I’ve never cleaned so much dirt and sh*t off a bike as it’s come apart.
Next year sees it’s thirtieth birthday, and my intention is to have it running by then.
In fact the other VF I have is thirty next year too, but I reckon it’ll be forty before it goes again, having stood in a barn for fifteen years.
