A local TA Royal Engineers battalion was sent over to destroy the oil supply plants on the French, Belgian and Dutch coasts. 7 of them were killed, some on the Lancastria. A relieved Churchill awarded several DSOs.They would have had North Kent accents though….

Many thanks to the regular ‘reporters’ for the daily coverage and photos this year. Have a Merry Christmas and take those 3 days off. πŸ™‚

Ford used to have built, ‘Supervans’ which were Ford Transits fitted with big Ford V8s or Cosworth V8s. Now how about one with a Merlin? πŸ˜€

Does the film include footage of the flight along Blackpool seafront passing the tower? I was on the sand dunes at the airport and saw the pair head off that way before they made the dams fly over?

There is a brief shot of the beach as they flyby. Nicely filmed but there isn’t much of the airshow appearances. I recon there must be another DVD on the ‘digital cutting room floor.’ πŸ˜‰

If I remember correctly (It was a long time a go) The upstairs galleries started with balloon and kites (No.1 squadron RFC) and ended with a display of gallantry medals and citations from WW2 Perhaps they might get some ideas if they look up there. Yes, they will need lights and a good cobweb broom I expect…

Surely Bae Systems (or whatever they call themselves this year) have drawings? They operated the last airworthy one here and must have needed them for servicing?

Having visited the museum I would be concerned about the Dakota’s safety/security on what seems an open
    remote site?

The A21 is being widened in that area (at last, only 20 years late!) I expect that disturbed them?

I seem to remember that Paul Day while at the BBMF not only reached 1000 hours on Spitfires but the same on Hurricanes too?

The problem with the son et Lumière (when it was there) was that when it finished, the lighting was only raised to a poor level. At one time (thankfully better now) my eye sight struggled to read captions in this light. The lighting is still poor in the Bomber Command hall. If the museum insists on this low light then it should illuminate the captions.

I’m wondering if they filmed the Lancaster landing on fire? If they did, the hysteria will be unintelligible.
