The BBMF had a scare yesterday when their Lanc developed a U/C leak. They had a spare leg so changed it yesterday evening. Well done again.

I was there on a grim misty Wednesday and saw the team wangling the Gannet out (Carefully through the cut out!)
Nice to see Brooklands let their cockpit travel north.

I have never seen a reason given for the discontinuing of the Autumn Air day. I went to most over the last 20 years and usually drove straight in from the M11 at around 8.30. Only bugbear was getting out I had to turn left onto the A505 and turn round at the Fowlmere turning to get back to the M11. Size of the crowd and the airshow content was just right.

I couldn’t hear the commentary where I was but listened on the airband. Much more entertaining!

I have a hangar tour booked for next week. I understand that they don’t want us there too early or to stay too long afterwards, but is there any problem getting into the BBMF car park? The only other one I know of is in the village.
    Thanks for any help.

Beautiful Vampire shots, even against a grey sky.

May be a vote of thanks to the CWHM but the Canadian government had little to do with it. There was talk of sending a RCAF C130 over as escort but it didn’t happen in the end.

    Hear, hear.
Just reading on the BBMF site the post about their Lanc at Bournemouth with a generator problem.
So while getting the spare Merlin sent to Deeside, the spares were found and sent to get their own Lanc airworthy.

Excellent pictures Brian. I know it’s the Science museum but haveing some airframes completely ‘bare’
is strange. Part covered, part exposed is more informative.

I went to a VSCC meeting at Silverstone in the 1970s and there was a Spitfire parked on its own. In the lunch break it put on a terrific display in Tony Bianchi’s hands and the commentator thanked Patrick Lindsey ‘for lending him the keys.’

The article did mention that one was ‘on offer from the RAF’ so the one in Stafford may be dusted of.
Perhaps one for M.A.P.S to work their magic on like the original two aircraft?

Have the BBMF aircraft been fitted with suitable transponders yet? I think I read that some of the fighters that went to ARC were being fitted with them. It would make sense that they had the same system as civil types as they spend most of their time in ‘civil’ airspace.

I expect all this came about because of the sudden closure of Manston earlier in the year.
The BBMF and the Reds as well as any F16s usually operated from there for several south coast events.
