Is there an escorting aircraft? In the original plan a Canadian C130 was coming over to the UK
on an exercise and would accompany it.

At a wreath laying ceremony 4 years ago he was surrounded by school children asking what he got his medals for. “I can’t remember now, it was a long time ago.” I had hoped he would return next year. R.I.P sir.

I have a ticket for a hangar tour before they go home. I just hope that when I get to the car park there is room….

I was going to post this link to the MAPS website because they restored the Battle for the RAF Museum.
The aircraft was originally recovered from Iceland. The aircraft is now missing from their completed projects list…?
They are currently restoring two Merlins believed to have come from other Fairey Battles.

A Canadian C130 will be flying over at the same time ‘on a Maritime Patrol exercise.’

I remember one Fighter Meet where the weather got so bad that the Harrier was the only aircraft which could display in sight of the crowd. After which the display was cancelled. We don’t even have Harriers now…
But also good times too.

Back in the days of the ‘Walkman’ Duxford and several Historic houses I visited loaned visitors a set putting in a cassette using the appropriate language. Surely a modern version (Ipod?) is relatively simple and cheaper?
My local council has for several years had a walking tour of the water front area which you can download to any device. It has verbal cues when to switch on or off just like those cassette players did all those years ago. Using a numbering system it could even cope with Duxford playing ‘musical chairs’ with the exhibits.

Both types of defences were used in this corner of the UK and two local area History Forums
have sections covering them.

Given there are several memorials around it I think the outrage that would follow any threat to move it would stop any plans.
I would be more concerned with the Manston History Museum….

The Tiger club are trying to avoid eviction from Headcorn.

They have operated Tiger Moths from there for 25 years…..

So Scotland and Northern Ireland get to see it too after all….

Hi
Going slightly off subject but what about HS 2
it appears on the news that at least one cemetery is to be excavated and moved as part of the overall building of the project
surely this sets a precedent for future planning applications
in the end a burial site is a burial site
wether planned or accidental it contains the same thing human remains
in my opinion if it forces the government to give the lanc crew a decent burial it is a good thing
cheers

I wonder if the HS 2 route will go thro any crash sites ?
I was reading the other day that the Church of England’s bishops had expressed concern regarding the disturbance of graves. About 30,000 graves will have to be moved and they complained that during the clearance at Kings Cross JCBs were used. They want an assurance that this will not happen on HS2. It was also mentioned that several War memorials will be moved too. It will be interesting to see which is more important, money or respect?

If they plan an ‘archaeological dig’ how does that sit with the MOD’s stance on not disturbing a war grave? We have seen before that even with a land owner and relatives agreement wreck recovery has been resisted.

Brooklands Museum has archives of Hawker Siddeley companies. Maybe they can help?
