The Last British Dambuster by George Johnny Johnson.
Excellent autobiography of the bomb aimer in Joe McCarthy’s crew.

A good example of the paperwork needed gumming up the works. I particularly noticed how many errors and omissions engineers had noticed in the proposals. I should have expected the CAA to have people who can draft a document properly.
Interesting that the work could be driven to France, didn’t they invent the bureaucrat?

I have often wondered if the mass production of Mosquitos instead of ‘heavies’ would have been possible given the amount of wood that would be required. Some of it could have come from the USA and Canada but enough for 10-15000 more?
I wonder if any design consideration was ever made to building ‘metal’ Mosquitos?
It would certainly have saved many lives and the cost of their training.

Or we could buy an airframe which is still in production after 60 years. LM are pushing it under the MODs nose.
The Canadians and US Coast Guard use them..

Strange that as Paul reports, the aircraft and J Millican’s body were recovered yet he was buried in an unmarked grave. Identity shouldn’t have been a problem?

Good for you volunteering. If those photos were taken on a phone, the RAAF museum lighting must be better than some of ours in the UK. 😎

Around £5,000 for an annual season ticket from East Kent to London….

But could you sell 500-1000 houses there with no jobs and no rail link? Plus the cost of clearing the site of any
‘buried problems’ Thanet has been the unemployment black spot of Kent since the coal mines closed and was made even worse when Pfizers ‘downsized.’

The RAF certainly operated the airfield in the 1990s. The ATC was UHF and VHF. Many times I heard USAF pilots being given the ‘Dover tour’ on the talkdown frequency after they had flown a few approaches. The RAF left in 1999.

I suppose the question is where will the CWH Lanc enter and leave UK airspace? Will it be via Prestwick or further north like Lossiemouth or Wick. The aircraft will land and take off again so Scottish enthusiasts will get a chance to see it like the rest of the UK.

They are operating the ‘UK members’ rides from Humberside and a few flypasts.

Brooklands Museum have a TSR2 nose section. I believe it was a test specimen.

As I pointed out in the thread covering Duxford’s Quilt Fair, I think Twin Otter should consider another class for Cockpitfest. 🙂

Thanks for the links. It looks like the climate was too damp for any flying.

As in Historic car racing, the driver can mend faster than his equipment.
Have a nice rest except for that typing finger!
