Nice shots. One or two types we don’t see in the UK.

The VRT website gives the weekend of Sat 28 to Mon 30th of May as the Open weekend. Their Vulcan usually does taxi runs.

I accept that the IWM is about all artifacts of War but other museums like the Chatham Historic Dockyard have the facilities to store and restore boats.
There is a large collection of RNLI boats at Chatham as well as a destroyer and a submarine. I think the hangars on a historic airfield should be filled with aeroplanes especially when some are decaying outside.

All the spares have been dispersed (some to help restore museum airframes) Once they are not traceable they cannot be used in airworthy aircraft. Some of the paper work was disposed/destroyed. BA did a paper exercise to see if one aircraft could be maintained for ‘heritage flights’. It would not only been very expensive but quite impracticable as a team of engineers would have to be employed monitoring its systems. The aircraft was designed to fly 100 passengers supersonically, not flying circuits at airshows. It could not carry passengers as its certificate had been withdrawn by Airbus.
The Vulcan to the Sky has enough obstacles to overcome, Concorde would have many more. It’s a shame, but no chance.

Mike J, The Comet was definitely there and in the display. May be I missed the ground loop! A good look at the DH Collection in the old WW2 flight shed was another memory. The DH family log books etc. Hope they are safe somewhere.

I went to the last B Ae Hatfield open day in 1989. I believe the workers and families got in free and us ‘outsiders’ paid (a fiver?) a donation to local charities. A wonderful display and tour of the 146 production line. It seemed very generous to me, certainly memorable.

Wow How many PAX does that take? 😮

Just read ‘Backroom Boys’ The chapter on the Black Knight project is breathtaking. One of the scientists had worked on model rockets as a schoolboy and the security thought there had been a breach! He was so advanced.

An excellent museum run by a small band of enthusiastic volunteers. I haven’t been for about five years, but the signs from the nearby A75 were almost non existent then. I tried to get the Tourist Board to do something about it but nothing happened while I was there.

It was dismantled at LHR last Autumn and was supposed to move to Manchester in November. There have been many delays, but I saw somewhere last week that the first wing was to be moved soon.

But are they not reporting an Airprox Board Investigation?

Presumably you have seen Concorde SST? Many pages of historical information there.
