Peter, There is a company in the UK called Wren Turbines. They make small turbines including turbo props, their website is :- http://www.wren-turbines.com/index.html
The B52 on the photos page was powered by 4 of their engines but unfortunately crashed and burnt out this Summer! At around £4-5K per unit they are not for the faint hearted. 🙂

Just imagine sitting among that company. Even better with a camera!

It is quite possible that the answer my be in a book available in the UK or Europe or the US but not in NZ (for example) On the other hand it may be only available in NZ or Oz. That’s what makes a forum like this compelling reading.

Victor Beamish was a Group Captain when base commander.

Victor Beamish was station commander at North Weald. He started to fly alone behind the wing because it was suspected that some were ‘not as keen as they should be’ But he carried on long after it was neccessary and was eventually shot down and killed. Mentioned in ‘Fly for your life’

In the DD video catalogue there are ‘RAF at WAR’ videos and DVDs there are 3 listed each containing 7-8 training films.
See http://www.ddvideo.co.uk/ and then type in training films into the search box.

Reminds me of a day last year when I saw a different Ferrari outside a specialist repair shop. “What is it” I asked the mechanic. “An Enzo” he replied “Only 3 months old” Then I walked round the back and saw the new back panel he had fitted. 😮

Best wishes from me too. You must be fit to pass your pilots medical. 🙂

Thumbing through a book of photos of Manston. I found one of Winston Churchhill. the caption reads :-
‘An important visitor chats with members of no. 615 Squadron, 28 the August 1940. Winston Churchill inspects the station and 615 who at that time had a detachment operating from Manston flying Gloster Gladiators (the squadron was later re-equipped with Hurricanes)’

If this is a caption contest, I think Steve’s photo should be:- When not flying by the seat of his pants, he polishes memorial plaques by the seat of his pants!

This takes me back to the first fuel crisis-after Suez. There were stories (scurrilous I’m sure) that the Messerschmit was made from war surplus 110 cockpit covers. 🙂 around 60 mpg though, I believe.

Thanks for the reply G BSST. So presumably it would be G-BOAA or later? I note the drawing of the missile equipped Concorde is credited to Arthur Gibson. He was the photographer who took the Red Arrows and Concorde flying over the QE2. I wonder if he was commissioned by the Concorde PR people to try and get someone interested?
mmitch.
That’s the same one as mine

How many airworthy DC3s have Atlantic got left now, Will? Is there a time in sight yet when they will run out of hours? Hope not!
