As a poster over on Pprune said ‘Perhaps a vote for a new RAF Museum curator would be more use’…

I always thought the Hurricane wreck memorial centre piece was a moving place to stop for a moment. I can remember (some years ago)a group of unruly school children being removed from there by security for being disrespectful. Instead the museum management do it for them these days.

As I said in my earlier post, surely the Lanc’s Merlins were given an inspection during their 6 months off the airframe? If so the Lanc would not needed inspecting again?

Has anybody seen any aircraft being moved into the former Battle of Britain hall yet or is it to be left ‘aircraft free’ perhaps with VR headsets for everybody to wander round an empty space. It does seem very quiet….

We enjoyed the flying, but the static parking was scattered. The Reds were parked in the far side corner again. I remember the last ‘full’ airshow in 2010 they were lined up on the short runway so every body could see the start up. That runway was kept clear even though the biz jets were using their apron. The two Spitfires and the Hurricane were parked nearly with the biz jets. Oh well the flying was good.

I can remember the Merlin powered car in the 60/70s. I believe it was owned /built by a John Dodds? I think he had a legal run in with Rolls Royce because her had a Rolls pattern grill. He ran it on the road and at the Brighton Speed Trials, I saw it.

I am surprised that the Lanc is affected. It had all its Merlins removed during the overhaul .Were they given at least a ‘routine inspection’ if not a more in depth one?

Excellent article in ‘Memorial Flight’ by Col Pope on the trials and tribulations of the painting of the Lanc.

He recently appeared on the BBMF webpages inspecting ‘his’ markings.

Good to see real progress. I know that the projected finish time was originally planned for the Summer and is now about October.
It is a shame that the aircraft in the Hangar and Flight shed are not on display until then.

‘They’ must right. They only have to look at the RAF Museum closing the Battle of Britain Hall to know they are on the right track.
Virtual Reality Battle of Britain anyone?
