Reading that ‘plan’ through, there is constant reference to ‘digital technologies’. When I visited last September, there were broken displays with bits of paper stuck over them ‘out of order.’ The ATC display was screened off too. This is a problem with any video or sound display. The BofB Memorial at Capel en Ferne is impressive to see while still new but if it isn’t maintained it will soon look drab.

The centre of the BofB hall is the memorial with the names of the participants surround the wreck of a Hurricane in which one died.
I just hope that it doesn’t end up in storage because someone thinks it is ‘just junk.’

My ‘Sad RAF Museum’ thread stirred up a lot of ‘you were wrong’ comments but I had that feeling of a museum running down
even to closure. When you see an area being cleared and redecorated like there is a plan then it does at least promise something better. Perhaps they want to build a larger catering area that they can lease it to KFC or somebody. 😡

Nice wide U/C ! Perhaps have seen the 109 landing accidents they grafted a Hurricane chassis onto a 109?
Makes sense especially with their Winter.

Thank you both. I had wondered about a charter or USAF flight, but with larger airfields available
like Burtonwood that seems a bit more likely!

Could the pilot still be in it and the men are disarming the ejector seat? Hence the urgency?

Over on Pprune Military forum there is a former Vengeance pilot (Danny42c) who remembers Wing Commander Gill.

Peter is not going to rely on wind power to keep his workshop going if the ‘lights go out.’

When I was there they were looking at removing the Wellington’s wings to move it out of the hangar.
I expect there will be quite a few movements to empty that hangar!

I would rather a dozen of them than yet another wind farm! 😎

I remember back in the early 90s entering via a ‘British Aerospace’ gate and driving down the edge of the runway. The VC10 was parked at the end so I stopped to photograph it and was told I ‘was in a secret area and to move on!’ by a security guard. As I said in a previous post Bill Body and the Brooklands Society managed to stop the destruction just in time.

I was there recently. There were wing sections (from a Viscount) being restored for inclusion in the ‘Aircraft factory’ A A320 wing section was expected to be delivered soon. The Vimy will go into a large ‘tent’ by the aircraft park.
The bus museum is the long all green building behind the acoustic building. It is actually a high quality steel framed ‘tent.’

I suppose that is the point of a major or ‘deep’ service? Look for problems before they get too bad. Rather an extra month or two grounded than loose her. That was a bit close last Summer, the week before the fire she had crossed the North Sea…..
