thank you! I never saw this bird before. Never knew of this variant. I am amazed at the design idea so early in jet era, as i am that it escaped my eye until now. An inspiration to Rafale designers?

    thanks

Much better looking than Su-27 in my eyes. Will be sad when circular nozzles are gone.

are you suggesting that nozzles will be different in production version of Pak-fa?

have i missed something that big?

also, is final name confirmed to be Su-50?

    thanks

F-22 Raptor damaged during training flight

Why is this even in the news. Why does USAF allow public to immediately know such event. They even estimated damage to be about 2 million US$.

New pilot screwed up. Luckily no injuries. Now USAF wants the whole world to know there was a small accident with some damage to the plane.

How does USAF benefit from it? If anything, they should hide it just because its fricken military training whose strengths and weaknesses need not to be public

    I don’t get it.

those 6 hard points under the wings look like they beat mig-21 hard points anytime. More like Su-25 category! And its a chopper.!!! Damn!!!

    p.s.
How cool would Ka-52 look with nose painted as the rest of the body, or some creative camouflage!!

    I agree with this! (obligatory)

Specially second point about single thread per topic. Every other forum supports this, and here I can name my own news thread for some reason (who cares about my news versus yours, or ” ketchup” or “mustard”!):-)
One active thread per topic is plenty!

Russian Air Force to get supermaneuverable aircraft

The Russian Air Force has started working on modernizing the domestic military aircraft fleet ahead of the completion of the fifth-generation jet fighter.
t has been decided to equip current fighter models with available thrust-vectoring engines. The first batch of upgraded fighters will be handed over to the Air Force by late 2020. It is also planned that all new T-50 fighters will have become operational by then.

“When a plane powered by a regular engine is taken to a wide angle of attack at low speeds, it loses control and stability and starts moving independently of the pilot’s commands, i.e. the plane moves randomly. The Su-35 has perfect controllability at any speed, even at negative speeds, for instance, when the plane drops tail-forward. The pilot can effectively put the plane in any angular position,” Sergei Bogdan, a Su-35 and T-50 test pilot, explained to Izvestiya.

    you don’t say?!

If I don’t see any actual news on T-50 soon, i’ll bitch to Putin directly. At least he’ll take it to hart!

Probably a silly question but what are the two open bay doors for on the underside of the air intakes?

another silly question for old enthusiast (and a huge Mig-31 fan)

This appears to be fairly recent photo. Now, why do Mig-31s still carry R-40 missile, and does this missile have advantage over more modern equivalent in its class? Russia, or USA, or EU made.

I can only think of its huge wings having advantage in thinner air as far as maneuverability goes.

Why isn’t this missile retired and replaced by now (with R-77)

Has R-40 had any recent upgrades i’m not aware of? (post 1990)

In my opinion, if Mig-31 flies armed in 2012, it should have nothing less that longest range R-77s under the wings.

    cheers

    thanks

[QUOTE=Berkut;1870126][QUOTE=Wanderlei;1869774]Does anyone have newer photos of Mig-31 carrying a “full load” .

There is plenty of new shots with MiG-31 with 4 R-33’s, but R-40’s are rare.

yes, i wander if they are fazed out. Don’t understand why so many are without any missiles under wings, or even without any under the fuselage.

sorry for being not informed, but how many Mig-31s have undergone upgrade, and what missiles have they been seen with under the belly. I don’t mean test samples, or demo units, but service units. Photos of coarse would be extra!!

    thanks

now thats an impressive load that never gets boring, nor old!

Does anyone have newer photos of Mig-31 carrying a “full load” . I see wonderful new high-rez pics of Mig-31 everywhere, but hardly any with weapons, or better yet flying with weapons. I don’t understand why that is.

Maybe some upgraded Mig-31 birds with newer weapons ?

    COME ON, someone’s got it!

    p.s.
    sorry for ranting.

that may be, but they have a lot more don’t they. This makes maintenance much easier by sharing good parts. Out of 40 mig-29s you can make 15-20 good ones. Serbia had 14 to begin with and by the year 1999 they had nothing to fix them with basically.
Also, Iran is much better versed in self maintenance recently and had a lot of time to prepare for this possible attack that unfortunately still hovers above their heads.
