so, if this is all genuine… figure by 2015 China should have 100-200 of these birds in service, plus more advanced version in works. How many Su-50s will Russia have in service by then?

looks “thick” like F-22. But I bet from other angles it will look very cool, even more interesting than any 5th gen out there.

    thanks!
    Sort of related..
How much is its successor, the mighty Mig-31 improved in this manner over Mig-25. I understand its mission is also farthest from “knife fight” but it does have advantage over Foxbat.

In other words, how do you compare the two as dog fighters, and if they were in the dog fight against each other, who would have advantage.

    cheers

what aerodynamic aspect od Mig-25 makes him not maneuverable? Or, should i say less maneuverable than lets say mig-21 or F-4.

Is it only the type of engines that made it very unsuitable for low speed/high maneuvers, or is it actual physical shape as well?

To me, mig-25 shape always looked more like close combat fighter, than high speed bomber interceptor only.

    thanks

    ahh, i got ya..
Is it really correct that no current usa plane has this?

Also, don’t have the picture, but can anyone post Mig-29UB two seater with this barely edged black spray paint anti glare in front of cockpit. It always amazed me why this beautiful aircraft had such messy, barely shaped spray paint edges of it.

    cheers

all the photos I’m seeing are russian. maybe there are problems with the infrared sensor that make it suseptable to bright spots on gloss paint

maybe you should look at the photos again 🙂

this is really good question 🙂
All planes with this feature look like they are from the same era, yet they are not.

    BEEEEEP

    The PAK-FA Threat
    http://www.defencetalk.com/the-pak-fa-threat-30563/

Air Force News — By Iouri Synogatch on December 13, 2010

In response to an article published earlier about the threat that the PAK-FA presents to US air superiority as well as that of US allies, the PAK-FA hardly presents a short-mid term credible threat. The article attacks the closure of the F-22 production line conveniently ignoring that the F-22 was never meant for export to begin with, and even if the production line had remained open export was not likely.

The notion that a 5th generation fighter jet can be operated by a non-state actor, such as Hezbollah, or can be used for terrorism is ludicrous. The support infrastructure alone, to keep the fighter operational, would be an un-shoulderable burden for anyone without access to secure modern basing facilities, and billions of dollars in funds. The fear that rogue or hostile to the US states are likely to acquire the fighter in the near future is similarly unfounded. As it stands the project is a joint venture between Russia and India, and those two air forces (with a combined order estimated at ~500 aircraft) will have priority. Given that production is only starting in 2015, and even that may get pushed back, production slots for 3rd parties won’t be open until ~2025.

It’s similarly unlikely that the plane will be exported to China, which is currently trying to develop an indigenous 5th generation fighter program. Likely export customers will be fairly rich countries with a practice of using Russian military equipment, and the funds to purchase very expensive 5th generation fighters.

Additionally the capabilities of the PAK-FA will compare rather unfavorably in many areas with not only the F-22, but also the F-35. The AESA radar to be used on the PAK-FA is only set to undergo flight testing in 2011. The USAF has been operating AESA radars on late 4th generation fighters for years now, with several generations of these radars. The first Russian serial AESA radar will go into the PAK-FA. Similarly reducing the detectability of the aircraft through technological means is something the US has done for decades. For Russia this is practically a first. More significantly the support assets and experience of reducing the enemies situational awareness to allow aircraft to carry out strike missions is absent.

In short the PAK-FA is not a credible threat to USAF air dominance against any potential export customers air forces. It is a major asset to the VVS (Russian Air Force) as it represents not only a replacement for outdated Soviet era fighters, but also a major step in the direction of net-centric warfare. It offers increased horizontal communications between multiple PAK-FA fighters, as well as the PAK-FA and ground-based systems. It represents also an opportunity to remain competitive internationally as the F-35 looms on the horizon, and Flanker upgrades sales can only last so long. In short the PAK-FA may mean a lot in terms of competing for global fighter markets, and certainly means everything to the VVS’s ability to remain relevant in the regional as well as global context. However its export and proliferation do not constitute a credible deterrent or even threat to US air dominance.

That came out nasty as someone either oversensitive, or not getting the point. Maybe i did word it out wrong. Hell, i’ll take the fault.
I hope you see i don’t disrespect any single one. That would be stupid. Let me write this shorter so you don’t get wrong idea again. I only support argument about this being a “hot news” because it is not some Mig-21 in Africa that went missing, nor a Cessna pilot in mountains of Ural. No one even posts about that here. Why ? -not because they disrespect pilots life, but because they don’t care about this news so much because they don’t care about the aircraft so much. Tell me this is not true. It just is! This time it was a hot F-22, and any news about it gets more attention, than most other, including when sadly there is an accident.

I read your previous posts, and believe me, doing rescue work is nothing but respectful and inspiring. I don’t need to be in full agreement with you, only making sure i was clear.

this might sound insensitive to some in the way Arthur wrote his thoughts, but lets face reality of another thing about this thread:

Magnitude of worry and sorrow in this thread, or “Crocodile tears” as someone said, is really because in this case, it is pilot of F-22.

If it wasn’t F-22, it would have been just another accidental crash with couple of R.I.P replies.

so is this really about Capt. Jeffrey Haney, or F-22. I think we all agree – not at all !! As far as this comunity is concerned. Right or wrong. This is all about F-22 crash. So because its migthy F-22, his death gets more glorified.

no offense meant. Just my observation. After all, this thread title IS” F-22 missing”…. not Pilot name so and so missing during mission”

    best regards

take a look at this thread. Its a great example of the technological stage in aviation most are in.

We can’t even predict a much superior manned fighter aircraft than F-22 or Su-50 or some Stealthy version of Su-35 !!!

yes we can imagine, sure, but considering current trends in technology, and air warfare requirements, we are so much more stuck in present than we were let say in year 1970, 1980, 1990, and 2000.

now its the end of 2010 and things are more unclear, and unjustified to focus opn than ever. What do you build now. Whats is it supposed to do, and who is it supposed to directly dominate,( machine vs. machine)

I hope personally that next generation ( 5th generation successor) manned fighter will, first of al be still manned, and will extend towards ability to not only quickly get to an area of interest of domination, but also extend to altitudes reaching satellite orbits ( at least weapons reach) in order to eliminate enemy GPS and satellite guidance. Basically, bringing the enemy down to earth 🙂

i don’t think its about being stuck on issue. Fact is we dont know, and of coarse, we “still” wanna know.

is it coincidence that inlets are covered, or not visible in all new pictures? Let me stop myself. Its for whatevr reason. Maybe they realised interest of the public, now they are having fun covering it.

Most honestly, I don’t want, nor care about this argument to continue again until facts, and good pictures are in. It would simply be waist of time and this thread.

    cheers though 🙂
