It all seems rather pathetic to me.

You can’t compare the service life of a military combat aircraft, to that of a civilian airliner.
Rather like comparing an F1 car, to that of a family saloon.

I was trying to find out, how many active airfields there are in the UK.

There are various listings, but most include military airfields (open and closed), and many closed civilian
airfields. Either way, there’s an enormous number of airfields still in use around the country.
How many can the GA fraternity support, irrespective of their past histories ?

Who actually owns the airfield ?
