Sorry, I should have been specific.
I didn’t mean from design to fly, more along the lines of all of the various components being available and ready to assemble.
Regarding the “…Fulton surface-to-air recovery system…”, I believe this was primarily designed for recovering downed aircrew in Vietnam.
Does anyone know if it was used much in that conflict ?
I remember seeing it demonstrated at an airshow (using a dummy), at Bentwaters I think.
Thanks gentlemen. After nearly 14yrs, I finally find out what it was I took a photo of !
According to Wikiwhatsit: “….The system attempts to disrupt enemy command and control communications and
limits adversary coordination essential for enemy force management…”

I did think it might be for Drone recovery, but there would need to be some accurate flying to avoid the props.
Of course they should go, they’ve trained a long time for this event. It should not be treated as a political football.
Especially by the likes of Hague, who likes to poke his nose in everywhere.
It always amazed me how “Teflon Tone”, got away with so much. He was one of the untouchables.
……………….. Putin now sees the west as a toothless threat, we will stand by and watch as he does what he wants simply in my opinion because we need their gas, like was feared a few years ago the Russians will hold the gas pipelines as ransom if we go against their actions…………
Geoff.
Which sums it up quite nicely. Putin will do whatever he wants to.
I don’t have the link to hand, but I’m sure there are details of forthcoming exercises, on the RAF website.
The best thing of all, it’s free to get in ! 🙂
It depends on the hostile environment. Can an A-10 seek cover behind a treeline or a small hill.
No, but it would less likely to have the need.
If I were in a hostile environment, I think I’d much rather be sitting in an A-10 than any helicopter.
(Isn’t “Helo” the term used for US Navy helicopters 🙂 )
Shall have to watch this when it comes on. Being a metal detectorist myself, I tend to watch the
various US series on the subject. Believe it or not, this pair are two of the more laid back chaps 🙂
Did they say how the aircraft bits came to be there ?
Nice pictures.
There was a piece on the BBC News this morning, with Bruce Dickinson
Really, this forum has gone downhill since the older experts left. All we seem to get now is schoolboy conspiracy theories.
Very good, you get two Brownie Points for that comment 🙂
