    Thanks for the info.

I remember when Southend used to offer (maybe still do) a PAR service.
I often used to listen to them “talking” aircraft down in foggy conditions.
If I remember correctly, they would only do this down to within a quarter of a mile of the runway ?
If the pilot couldn’t see the threshold lights, he would go around.

Have also heard aircraft doing a practice pan. Do you have to be able do that before being allowed to
do a cross country flight ? I would have thought that was a mandatory requirement. Although with
more people using GPS, less of an actual need.

    I see they say:

Call early as pride can be a killer. Please practice as much as you want. It is free and one day it may
save your or another person’s life.

    Wise words

Not being a pilot, I can only imagine how frightening it must be to be forced down to a dangerously low
altitude, especially if the terrain is anything other than dead flat. Even if you are instrument rated.

The temptation must be to climb through the fog and get into some clear air.
Once you are up there how do you get back down ?, not knowing what the cloud base is, or what obstructions
there may be which aren’t on your flight chart. If indeed you have time to consult it, if flying solo.

I expect that GPS must be a godsend in these conditions, but do the aviation models give warnings of obstructions,
or advice on terrain avoidance ?

I know there will be those who say that you shouldn’t get into a position like this in the first place,
but as they say ” the person who never made a mistake, never made anything” (or something like that)

I hope they also improve the ventilation. We went there on a hot day three
years ago. It was stiflingly hot inside.

Doesn’t this also often happen when British people go to live abroad ?
I suppose it’s natural to stay around people you know, especially if you are
    not bilingual.

A few years ago we had a very nice Nigerian family move in next to us.
We couldn’t ask for nicer neighbours. It does feel strange though, when we
get invited in to one of their gatherings and we are the only white people there.

I’m sure you’ll be very happy with it. The only issues seem to be the auto focus, but that can be worked around.
It’s a good camera for the money. Although I did get mine at a very good price.

I think that you will find that in many cities, especially western ones, that the
indigenous population is in the minority.
