Looks like a car clock

Was this the cheapest bid ?
I’m not saying it’s bad, looks quite good to me but there is nothing I see to connect BA and the olympics – in fact I see no reference to either!
Red, white and blue and some olympic rings please!
Hello,
I’m after some advise on polishing turbine blades… Does anyone have any experience of this? Are there are polishing compounds out there that anyone can recommend?
Any advice would be greatfully received!
Thanks
If you don’t have a polishing wheel you can do it by using fine wet & dry paper, starting around 800 ( depending on how rough the surface finish is to start with) working up to a 1200 grade and then crocus paper. Finish off with solvol autosol and finally buff up with a soft cloth. I then find a coat of silicon wax brightens the finish and helps keep the shine. You will also need some elbow grease 🙂
The hardest part is the root, especially fir tree types – fiddly to get into the corners.

Sorry but the Mk2 Wessex on 72Sqn had blue computers etc not black ones. If I can remember my image hosting ID I will put the photo’s up
I knew I shouldn’t have stuck my neck out 😀
I remember at Shawbury we operated Navy HU5’s. During the start of the Falklands campaign we worked 24/7 to change the blue computers/throttle actuators for ‘RAF’ black ones in order to provide the navy with spares. When we got Mk2’s from Germany ( 18 sqn ? ) they had black ones. Perhaps it was the other way round – memory banks and all that – it was thirty years ago
Anyway, back on topic, this is a remarkable achievement building this without proper instructions.
1110-1 is the number and it looks exactly like a wessex fit – the notes it came with claim Wessex, and the painted marks on a couple of box covers claim wessex also.
Thanks so far, but I have seen those pictures and the only one of use was the Everett Aero one, BUT the bag get in the way. The Wiki one is the correct mark, but is not clear enough.
Gnome 10101 was fitted to Whirlwinds, 11101 & 11201 were fitted to Wessex if my memory serves me right.
This one is definately Wessex from the oil tank mounted on the intake. The engines were left and right hand configurations. I would also stick my neck out and suggest it was from a mk5 navy Wessex due to the blue throttle actuator ( RAF mk2’s had black ones IIRC and different computers).
Sorry, I don’t have any photo’s to offer.
I believe that Rome Army Airfield in NY state was renamed after him, Griffiss AFB.
First class work !!
Is it possible that the rake of the undercarriage is changeable according to the load on the aircraft ( fuel, bombs, ammunition etc )?
With the aircraft light the oleos will be extended with the a/c sitting higher off the ground and the undercarriage legs raked backwards. Load it up and the oleos compress, shortening the legs and reducing the rake. This would also explain why the rake is prominent when the a/c is airborne.
Is there any speculation as to the cause of this ?
Mince pies and sherry perhaps …..
Excellent work !
I really enjoyed watching this.
“why are people interested in this after all these years?”
So very humble those guys considering what they went through and what they achieved.
Steve
Hmmmm…. let’s see…
low aspect ratio parasol wing, no ailerons, V 12 engine, 4 tiny main wheels with a cargo tray suspended between the oleos and an open cockpit….
Tough one this :diablo:
I have compufoil 3D which can create airfoil shapes and export them as DXF files to use in things like autocad.
PM me and I’ll see what I can do.
Steve
So it’s C for Charlie and not copyright, part C or clockwise…:D
Many thanks for the replies chaps
Steve
I made a slide holder out of thick black paper and white tissue as a difuser. This slides over the camera lens and I use the macro facility on the camera. Gives me good results and only cost about 50p 🙂 I did find with the older slides and negatives ( 25 years + ) that I had a colour hue, yellow with slides and blue with the reversed negatives- this was down to dirt or smoke and went away after I washed the film with a photographic detergent.
I thought the plan was that you could see half the race on BBC and the remainder on SKY 😀
