Hello Eddie,
I think that P7350 lost her bullet holes about 2 years ago when the last of the original skin was replaced.
Its been down for a while now, but its back up and running again!
Lets start with a picture!!!

So, to answer the question… My love of Austers started once I’d got my PPL and was looking to convince my father and friend that owning an aircraft was the way to go… But our brief was strict… Had had to be affordable… And it had to be ex military! What else is there other than the Auster?!!! No, of course there are other options, but after Richard Webber and the late Al Mathie took my friend and I in an Auster we were hooked!
They really are great aircraft. They can get in and out of anywhere, are simple to maintain yet need some skill to fly nicely – And a bit more skill to land nicely!
They’re also very affordable compared to other aircraft out there.
They’re not everyones cup of tea… Too slow for many… too old for many… But I love that these simple little aircraft played a major part in the war. I think the pilots who flew them were extremely brave.
I said on one of the other threads, about the negative response to me taking the Aircraft to shows such as Waddington, but I’m always amazed at the response we get when we’re there… So many people had their first flight in an Auster (Normally from Skegness!) – And they love to come and tell us about it!!!
I’m privileged that 927 lives at RAF Scampton.. Home of the Red Arrows – Another photo? OK!!!!

I think you meant to reply to Bomberflight did you not
Bomberboy
My mistake Bomberboy… Im Sorry! I’ve edited it now.
Rocketeer,
I have his number. I cant give it to you, but I can call him for you if it helps? If you PM me your number then I could pass it on. Or I can ask Barry if he’s happy for me to give you his number.
I’m always amazed and a bit saddened at so much negativity. And people with an axe to grind are always the quickest the trot out the lame excuse that they have a right to be less than flattering about the hard work going on right now in preparations for the greatest wardbird show in Europe.
Please bear in mind the one group who cannot say what THEY think.
THEY are bound by confidentially from saying anything !
THEY are the ones either working or volunteering today ~ in some cases having got up at some ungoldly hour to drive 2 hours to get to Duxford.
THEY are the ones who are beavering away right now to present the best show they can ~ but receive so little thanks from the audience.
And THEY read forums like this ……
And right now I’m going to see how THEY are getting on 🙂
What will be you’re CONTRIBUTION today ?
Bomberflight,
Why is it that those who are active volunteers ‘CONTRIBUTORS” feel that those who don’t volunteer have no right to voice an opinion on a line up at a show? The vast majority of those at legends will contribute in the only way they can… By handing over their £34.50… For that, they get a great show. No one is doubting that. Legends is always a great day out, but I do have to agree with rafmatt… The list published to date isn’t the most exciting COMPARED TO OTHER YEARS. But please, can we get away from this mentality, that if you don’t take part, you cant comment.
Also, picking up on what Chris G says… No one is doubting the commitment of the pilots who attend, and their efforts are very much appreciated. In fact, I think Flying Legends is the only UK airshow I know if where there will be at least one thread started on Sunday evening just showing photos of the pilots who took part. Their efforts are very much appreciated.
On the other hand, I will take my aircraft to Waddington this year and will almost certainly get the opposite response. In fact it’s already started on another forum, ‘No more Austers at Waddington’ – The fact that I take the Auster to promote our charity is a different matter. The spotters don’t like them there… But that doesn’t mean that they cant voice an opinion. Nor does it mean that I should go back to them all, and ask them what they’re taking to the show… They’re taking what I take to legends… Hard earned cash!
I’m only sorry that I wont be able to attend Legends myself this year!
As for the Aircraft I will be bringing it is a bit too modern and needed else where.
Good answer!!!
I’m afraid I dont buy into this ‘what are you bringing’ theory… The punters who go to these shows bring the most important part of the show… The money! Without money, there will be no show, and without interesting exhibits, there will be no punters. You need all parts of the puzzle to make an airshow.
Legends will still be a great show, especialy if pistons are your thing. But I have to agree with rafmatt…. This year doesn’t look extra special compared with whats been seen perviously.
Personally, I’ll be at Waddington this year…
:)… I dont think I need to say anymore than that!
Est123,
I’m sorry but I dont have sufficient knowledge of the TSA to comment on your survey, but welcome to the forum anyway! Hope you stick around, despite people telling others to ignore your survey. Thats hardly a nice way to welcome a new (and presumable young) member to the forum.
Hello Charles,
Yes, I’m still looking for one… I need one to mount the cockpit of XN728.
I’ve sent you a PM.
Many thanks
Sycamore Aviation, Durham Tees Valley.
Exactly… And we all know there are a lotmore aircraft breakers around the country than Sycamore Aviation….
So those who talk of gold plating the rules etc (sorry to single you out Peter) are very much misinformed.
Mmm, if we’re going to start talking about waste management, which of the UK companies that are actively involved in breaking aircraft have a waste management license / environmental permit to do it?
I’m not sure I see the problem here. You turn up after the park is closed to entry and expect to be let in? The bloke might need to get off , catch the last bus or whatever. Soemtimes it is worth trying to see things from the other side……
Thats very true Arthur, but it sounds like the guy Culpano dealt lacked some basic manners.
Hello Roger,
From a quick count of the figures, approximately 4038 aircraft were built in Lincoln during WW1 – It looks like there were were orders for 4295 (Ref ‘Aircraft made in Lincoln’ by John Walls and Charles Parker) – Mods, I’m not advertising the book, but credit where it’s due… They’re not my figures and I wouldn’t want it to appear that I’ve done all the hard work… I most certainly haven’t!
Production included 200 BE2’s, 800 Sopwith Snipe’s & 1975 Sopwith Camel’s.
I understand that Lincoln produced more Camel’s than anywhere else?
I also also confirm, that the 3 aircraft listed in my first post are the only 3 surviving aircraft from those built.
As well as making aircraft, Lincoln was also building aero engines and developing the tank. It’s also really interesting to know that the roots of todays ‘Shuttleworth collection’ at Old Warden originate in Lincoln.
Thanks TO… I’ll give them a shout.
