Tony, I’m not sure if you’re right there. I’m not able to check the details from where I am at the moment, but remember that B&B owner who refused to allow a gay couple to stay… I’m sure they were convicted in court. I’m sure if you’re running a business, you can’t refuse a customer because of their race, religion etc*

I dont have the facts in front of me, but I’m sure it was something like that.

    *including the British army!

    Soldiers aren’t a race.

Thank you for pointing that out to me ppp, but I’m already well aware of it.

Thats why I said its corporate racism, rather than racism… There is a difference, one is based on your ‘race’ (as I’m sure you know)… The is based on who you work for… I’m sure google will tell you all about it.

You take exception and issue with me because I explained the other side of the story, providing an objective view on a story which clearly has two sides, rather than jumping straight on the bandwagon, blindfold firmly in place? In that case I guess the issue really is with you, not me.

ppp, it is true that you have provided ‘a view’… But there is nothing at all ‘objective’ about your views on this thread. You’re taring everyone with the same brush due to the organisation that they work for… I believe the correct term for that is ‘corporate racism’ though I stand to be corrected.

Im almost frightened to post anything on here now, as almost everything i say is shot down, but i guess thats why we live in a democracy? We are talking visitor numbers here arent we? Thats what were trying to find visitors? well i put this to the panel. Would Hendon or Duxford or Cosford or even Newark get as many visitors if they were in say Southend or Kinloss? I would say NO! . So what makes CAT or Airbase or whatever name they like to be called nowadays think moving to a south cost holiday resort is going to produce any more income/visitors/interest than where they are now in the slap bang centre of the Uk map served by a host of motorways within spitting distance of the industrial black country, the leicester space centre, the NEC/NIA more cathedrals than you can shake a stick at. You see where im coming from? To me it seems ludicrous to spend the sort of money theyre going to have to spend to risk moving large airframes (most by road) equipment, tools expertise and of most importance the willing volunteer force they have accrued and possibly lose by moving south. The only suspicion i have is that they know more than they let on, is there a cloud hanging over the future of the Airport at coventry that we dont know about? If that is the case then a move to Bristol as mentioned earlier would seem a good plan. But Cornwall just seems an odd choice.Im sure others will enlighten me?

What you say is valid… Why move away from the center of the country to the far south… All I can say is that we know the current set up isn’t working… The collection is loosing lots of money… Im sure this isn’t a decision that was taken over a beer in the pub… Lots of things willl have been taken into account and one can therefore only assume that the financial savings they expect from operating out of Newquay outweigh the seasonal visitors associated with holiday attaractions.

ok, im sorry if i have disgruntled you, and perhaps were missing the point, why move them at all? leave them at coventry, work on them, keep them dry, safe and potentially airworthy, they are potential flyers and with the correct management and vision big crowd pullers! create a viewing are to see them being worked on, engine runs ,system checks etc.th touble with the current national museums is that they show a polished environment on their twice yearly open days.be open and show the paying public the whole show, not just the highlights

Absolutely no need to be sorry… I’m all for healthy debate! I just don’t think you’re right saying that those aircraft would end up scrapped… I’ve a good feeling that many of them would end up in private hands, not at the scrap mans torch.

There is a problem with the whole classic flight set up… It’s loosing money… and LOTS of it. They’ve tried to help stem the bleeding with the recent formation of the trust (I think its a trust they just set up?)… We dont know what deal they have been offered to move, but one can only assume that financially, the powers at be, feel that this is the correct decision for the collection. I certainly hope so. Its a a shame it cant move to somewhere a little more central, but if it keep the collection going, or at least the airworthy aircraft, then this has to be a good thing… Fingers crossed!

OK Mr Burke, ill do my best, i admit im not fully up to speed on the collections fleet but here goes; 1) twin pin
    2)DC-6 G-APSA
    3)DC-6 G-SIXC
4)Twin Pioneer G-APRS (transportable but non flying)
    5)EE Canberra G-CDSX
    6)EE Canberra G-BVWC
7)Percival Pembroke G-BXES (surely not flying yet)
    8)DH Devon G-BWWC
    9) Nimrod
    10) well ok, ive got to nine, look its the thought of dragging these precious airframes to the far end of the country away from the teams that have looked after them for so long. i suppose there is one silver lining in all this,When it all goes wrong they can bulldoze the whole bloody lot into the sea! Oh are all the Daks currently airworthy down there? if not that would make ten!

    Sorry, but thats ridiculous.

What makes you think that no one will want to buy them? I’m sure that at least 6 of those aircraft wouldn’t struggle to find new homes if they were put on the open market.

Mmmm…. I dont really know where I can go with that…. But I think you’re wrong! Generally speaking, when soldiers are out in public… and in their uniform, they know how to behave. There are always exceptions to the rules, but overall, I think thats the case.

I think this is disgraceful. If they were refused entry due to their race, or colour, the landlord would be in front of a judge by now… Whatever the landlords reason, it’s discrimination and it shouldn’t be allowed.
