Bruggen… Now THAT is a good looking aeroplane… And in those colours too. I hope we see her in the skies again soon.

It would be a great photo if only the foreground wasn’t cluttered!

If this is a copy of an original nose art carried on an OA-10, then I’m interested to know how John Dibbs can claim copyright on it? The copyright remains with the originator, unless of course John has bought it himself?

Sorry, I’m not meaning to be funny here… I just don’t see how how someone can redraw something that them claim copyright… Isn’t that exactly what copyright is designed to prevent?

I am right in thinking at this ‘nose art’ was carried on a war time Catalina?

Jim, I know it was only a light hearted joke… Perhaps I got on my soap box a bit too soon, but im sick of seeing it reported in the newspapers etc about how can we be in a drought when its raining. Its been a bad 2 years as far as rain fall is concerned, at least for the east of the country. I dont know how far south you are but there was a large scale fish rescue on the welland just a few weeks ago. I know not all out waterways show signs of dought, but some really are / were in a bad way. This rain has helped with river levels above ground, but the groundwater is a long way off being fixed. Sorry, I’m down off my box now!!!

No, I’m not saying it hasn’t rained for 2 years… But I am saying that its been well below average rainfall, particularly in Lincolnshire for the last two years. Thats why two or three weeks of heavy rain isn’t going to change anything. Before the heavy rain of recent weeks, have you not seen the fish rescues in Lincolnshire on the BBC news? Before this rain, our rivers were in real danger of drying up. And our groundwater is massivly depleted…. Hence why you cant use your hosepipe to wash your car… Because in most cases, that water comes from groundwater sources. Still, if your little partnof lincoln has been particularly wet over the last 2 years then you can always starting using rainwater to wash the car… Collect it in a water butt and wash away untill your hearts’ content!!!!;)

Thats because we’re in a drought! Particularly in Lincolnshire. If you haven’t noticed the lack of rain over the last 2 years, then I have to ask, where have you been????

It will take a lot more than 2 weeks of rain to make up for 2 years below average rainfall!

Then I still apologise!!!! Sounds like its perfectly fair game to me! Sorry!

I do tend to get on my high horse when I hear about people who complain about low flying aircraft… Like those who buy a house next to RAF Scampton and then complain about the Red’s.

But if you’re after getting one up on another squadron… Well, thats another issue!

    Sorry!

Am I right in thinking there was a typhoon fitted with a RR Griffon?

My grandfather was stationed in Egypt during the war – he was a bandsman and played the clarinet. I know, its not very glamorous compared to those who fighting, but that was his job, and he entertained many a person doing it, and he paid many a respect playing at the funerals of the dead.

He often used to tell me about a place out in the desert – A big dumping ground, where you could find anything “from a transistor radio to a tank”. I wasn’t interested in transistor radios or tanks, but I was interested in aircraft!! When I asked him about it, he said he could remember aircraft being there (but his memory is very poor these days), but he also said he remember seeing aircraft engines in crates! Much of the stuff was brand new, it just wasn’t needed when the war ended, nor was it coming home.

I know its not directly related to this fantastic P40 story, but it is very interesting to wonder what is still out there waiting to be discovered!
