Many moons ago when i was a younger lad in this mans Airfarce and I was stationed at RAF Bruggen on a couple of Jaguar Squadrons, I was visiting my old Mum who lives on the outskirts of Carlisle and there is an old army camp close to the village that has long since seen all the buildings go, but being overgrown it is a pleasant place to walk, nice and peaceful….. then out of the blue Ssssssssssssssss whhhhoooooshhh rooooooooaaaaaaarrrrr a pair of Jags from 54 sqn roared over my head at low level banking to miss the village on their run in towards Spadeadam, feck me they were low, and feck me they were disturbing my holiday, so on the blower i went… Hello Mr TonyT here, your damn jets are low flying over our village…… ohh sorry sir, do you by chance know what they looked like, yes i replies, they were 54 Sqn Jags, one T bird and one GR1….. ohh he replies, you know your jets, yes I replies 😮 well we will see what we can do came the response :p
Incidentally as a wee TonyT of about 6 years old in height and age, we used to see, hear and feel through the ground the running of the blue streak rocket motors up on the fells at Spadadam and watch the smoke cloud rising, when in the playground of my infants school.
Please forgive me if I have missed the point here, but really, what hope is there when members of our own armed forces are complaining about low flying aircraft. Is it not an essential skill of the Royal Air Force?
If I’ve missed the point of your post then let me know and I will gladly delete it but really….
Is it just me or is there a pair of breasts on the lower right wing?
LOL – Thats fantastic! Wondered what you were on about until I went back and looked again!
She’s now at Little Rissington. Not sure what she’s doing there, but I understand that she’s privately owned.
I didn’t see it come up for disposal but according to google, she went there last last year.
Very nice aircraft. Shame it’s in the wrong colours though..
What colours should she be in?
Theres one at Scampton.. where other 2?
I thought the one at Scampton would be mentioned! There is a huge difference between a restoration candidate and being airworthy. The Scampton aircraft is still a long way from being airworthy.
I imagine the second one that will get mentioned is the one with the Foxhunter nose… Again… Its nothing like being airworthy, though I understand it would be a candidate for restoration.
Without the magic bit of paper all these aircraft are nothing more than ground runners.
Not sure where the third one is?!!!
and in the UK theres at least 3 that are live and airworthy but!!
Really? And where are they hiding?
How about a Robey Tractor Scout built in Lincoln? I wonder if any plans exist?
Very interesting… Thanks for that. You learn something new every day!
Apparently their “specialist paint team” are the only guys who still use white masking tape… well, & the guys who did the B17 at Dx… They must both like working harder than necessary..
Please excuse my ignorance on aircraft painting, but why is white masking tape harder to work with?
Looks really nice.
Have you got any other models you can share with us?
I always wished that some of the plastic model manufacturers would make kits of british traction… I don’t have a model railway, but I would be interested in a large model train – Static!
Congratulations. I will try and a get down on 12 or 13th May, and I’ll certainly become a member of your group… Great News!
Does anyone know where the name on the P47 comes from? I know that in Nottinghamshire Police SNAFU has (what I assume is) a whole other meaning – (Did anyone else see that episode of coppers?!!)
In the case of the P47, does anyone know where SNAFU came from?
I was looking on the web site of the company that sold this aircraft just a few weeks ago. It says that the aircraft is sold so one can assume that she still has a future? If she was sold for scrap or spares then I think things would have moved a lot faster. There was a substantial spares package with the aircraft.
Thats great news,
Do you know if the aircraft have been sold, or have they been made airworhy again to try and help with selling the fleet?
Either way, its great to know that there is still an airworthy Buc flying today!
