Who said anything about breaking in? If it was open its fair game to them.
As a supporter of the site (28 days later) you will know full well that these ‘urban explorers’ regularly break in to gain entry… The nimrod is a perfect example. Its MOD property, it was on a secure airfield and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t left open for all to just wander through. Breaking in… yes, they do it regularly. If both you and I frequent the 28 days later site then you’ll know thats exactly what they do.
I know they have gone now but the Mil Mi26 that was being asked about in another thread today was found by them in 2009.

That is by no means valid reason for breaking into personal property to photograph it.

Forgive me if I’m off the mark here, and really… well done for trying, but it just doesn’t seem like cricket too me!
You can hardly call it a car… Strapping some wheels onto starfighter a cutting the wings off – I don’t see much in the way of design.
I don’t like to criticise people for having a go, but if this method works, then and starfighter, mig 21 etc etc is a potential work record holder.

So is the restoration still going ahead?
Most defiantly yes! My description of her is a little harsh but I prefer to play things down. I think most of the people on here know she’s a mess… And she is. But she’s a solid mess and can be restored!
I’ve had a lot of help from a few people and I am extremely grateful to them – You know who you are!!!!
To the people who have sent leads via PM – Thank you. I will chase them all up tomorrow.
In the mean time, if anyone else knows of any, please let me know!
Thank you all!
It’s one of mine, but please feel free:)
If you had asked this question about 8 months ago I could have probably saved those two and one other trolley for you! All cut up now though.:(
Thank you very much for allowing the use of your photo. Sorry to have just used it like that but it was by far the best photo oI could find of a bomb trolley!
Such a shame that they were cut up, but then given the weight of them, there is a fair amount of scrap value in them.
Should love a picture of what your going to put on it;)
all the best Matt
Thanks Mat… ohhhh, It pains me to post this photo on here! Although I love it to bits and am delighted to have been able to save her, I have taken to describing her (XN728) as 2 tonne of scrap shaped like a Lightning!!!!!
However… She’s far from gone and it most defiantly restorable!

Dont worry… I saw just the other day that the RAF’s harrier fleet is sitting on the quayside at Southampton docks ready to sail… Oh no, sorry, they were packing crates.
I really cant believe what a state we’ve allowed ourselves to get into. I read only last week that the Russian had sheltered part of their fleet including their carrier Admiral Kuznetsov just off the Moray Firth a few weeks ago… Would they have done that if there was still a squadron of Nimrods stationed on the Moray? Personally, I don’t think so.
It’s a sad state of affairs.
I just wondered, what would people like to see happen to the site? – Thinking realistically, what other options are there for it?
I called in to Newark Air Museum in the week and picked up a copy of Into the Wind… I’ve just sat down and watched it….
I urge you all to see this documentary… I have to say I sat there with smiles on my face, lumps in my throat, and tears in my eyes (normally at different point in the documentary). It really is an outstanding piece of work. It’s very thought provoking – As strange as this might sound, i think I might get the lap top out tomorrow night… Drive to one of the many airfields in Lincolnshire and sit by the runway and watch it again.
I wont spoil it for anyone, but Alan McDonald sums the war up perfectly for me! (One of the moments hat made me smile!)
Steve, are you planning to have any public screenings in Lincoln at all?
Yep, I bid…he cancels my bid and ends the auction early…brilliant….so who made him an offer he could not refuse?
Ye, and he spacificly told me he wouldn’t end the auction early due to the high level of interest… Seems tobe quite a habit these days… People advertising on eBay and doing the deal else where!
It’s a far better deal than if they were to cut them up, where some contractor would probably charge us £100m+
Given the current situation, I guess it’s the best available outcome.
There are still 2 whirlwinds at Tattershall… I saw them last month when I flew over!

The Flying Flea was bought by the charity flights for life… We use it to promote the charity at places where we cant take a full size aircraft – Seen here at RAF Waddington 2011. Non standard colours, but we painted it like that to Match the Auster.

Credit to ‘EGDA Spotter’ for the photograph.
As well as using it to promote the charity, we bring it out when we have children over… They LOVE IT!!!!
