I fear that the scrap mans jaws are nipping at the fence as we speak. There clearly isn’t a market out there for sleeping lightnings…
Didn’t know that about ‘506, was the airframe included with the sale to the US?
Similarly, what has happened to the Jaguar XX119 and Tornado F.3 ZE791.
I can understand displaying combat veteran airframes but would also like to see these Retirement Schemes on display as well (if they’re not already).
Yes I know that we can’t expect every airframe to be saved/displayed and are not representative of the standard finish applied for Operations but these two in particular, plus ZG506, really stand out!
XX119 went to Cosford and ZE791 went to Leeming for parts recovery.
Given that only a couple of GR9’s have made it into preservation, I’m pleased they didn’t ‘waste’ (IMO) one of those spaces with ZG506… I think that was an awful scheme to apply to a GR9. No offence meant… But it didn’t float my boat!
You probably know more than me, I just thought the engines were removed?

Ye, Sadly she’s gutted inside. There’s a panel but no instruments, no engines and only 1 seat. Its very nice, but I think they are asking top whack for what it really is! – Shame. I quite fancy a wessex!
Its nice, but its a lot of money for a stripped out shell… No engines, no instruments, one seat…. I think it’s expensive!
I still wish I understood the MOD disposal process… How is it that some aircraft like this Wessex go direct to Air and Ground, while other aircraft (like this Dominies) go via eDisposals?… Does anyone know?
More value (and much more interesting) is the Wessex on sale by the same person.
Do you think so? I think the Wessex is a lot of money for a gutted shell?
Thats a very interesting photo Anthony… Do you have any more photos of HK Austers in those markings? Any idea how long before your Auster will emerge in such colours??
brilliant air to air shots.
Absolutely… Really impressive.
I think more and more people are using eBay in the way simon describes.
It’s bl**dy annoying when you let one item pass hoping to buy another only for the seller to then remove it off eBay and sell it privately. I don’t think that’s the spirit of the system and I don’t think eBays fees of 10% are too bad really given that it’s a truly global market.
If you’re going to list things on eBay then I think you should be forced to let the auction run… I don’t think Bonhams auction house would allow the seller to remove their original Van Gogh half way through the auction because they got a better offer… Why should it happen on eBay?
Can you put me down for a couple of the £500 spitfire seats please…
Thank you very much for your help gents… I’ll let you know how I get on. It is very much at the top of the estimate that has been given here, and the freight may make it prohibitive, however, if I do get it, then I’ll report back.
Jason, If I dont get it, then I will gladly put you in contact with the seller, but like I said above… They want a lot more than 100Euros, and I don’t think it has any provenance as such.
Thanks once again for your help.

Wessex XV720 is now up for sale at Air and Ground.
Any idea how much she is? Is it on their web site? I had a look but couldn’t see anything.
Taifun,
You have a PM… If it comes off, can I please request that the £100 goes to Flights for Life?!!!! – A charity which I am heavily involved with.
Thanks!

Who said anything about breaking in? If it was open its fair game to them.
As a supporter of the site (28 days later) you will know full well that these ‘urban explorers’ regularly break in to gain entry… The nimrod is a perfect example. Its MOD property, it was on a secure airfield and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t left open for all to just wander through. Breaking in… yes, they do it regularly. If both you and I frequent the 28 days later site then you’ll know thats exactly what they do.
