    Hi folks,
Just too clear a few things up as a lot of stuff been posted on numerous forums. Yes the test flight was cancelled due too the weather and there where a couple of snags this morning that have now been rectified one with the number 2 tank that was reading incorrectly and the other with some bolts in the undercarrige which were done under an SI but unfortunately put back in slightly bent (you cant get better than a kwik fit fitter lol).
There is no way that 558 would of been allowed too perform at Cosford on Sunday even if she had completed the TEST FLIGHT snag free and then done a couple of DA flights for Mr CAA.
As for Waddington I know some people seem too think the CAA permit too fly will take a week too sort out but it will take MA about that long if not longer too get the paperwork too the CAA and then at least 3 weeks for CAA to give permit too display. And she still needs her (maybe the last) test flight done yet which I believe they are looking at next week but with our wonderful summer living up too expectations dont count on it.
Hope thats cleared up a few rumours.
    Any questions
    🙂

    Thanks for the update.

I guess from what you’re saying, it will be very close as to weather or not she is able to display at Waddington?. I see that Waddington have taken the (p) – provisional off their website as far as 558 is concerned. Do you think if she’s not ready for a flying display, we might at least be able to see her there on the ground? Pride of place in the static 90th Anniversary display?

Looks like she’s not going today… The hangar doors are being closed.

Can anyone shed any light on why? Or am I jumping the gun?

You may be interested to know that using Firefox I cannot see the menu items on the left frame, they only show up using iexplorer. I have found this is quite a common problem when using MS Frontpage as the web editor. It may be that you are not concerned that other browsers cannot navigate your site, but with a significant portion of the browser market, making the site Firefox friendly may be useful.

That can be a common problem with Firefox, but I have to say, I’m also using Firefox today and have no problems seeing the menu items.

An E-80 will work if there’s enough room between the engine and firewall (I think there are 2 or 3 versions though, and only one that works), otherwise you will need the 90 degree Y-150 starter. And your engine must have the starter adapter on it. There are two types of adapter, long and short, and I believe they require a seperate oil feed line for lubrication. Al Ball in California is the US guru for Kinners, 805-525-9464, unfortunately he doesn’t do e-mail.

    What kind of aircraft?

Thank you very much for your help. I will give Al Ball a call.

    Please check your PM’s!

    Have you been there before?

I’ve been to Poland many times, but have never been to the show at Goraszka… I’m looking forward to it! – Will you be there? Are you based in Poland?

    Looks fantastic…

I will have the pleasure of meeting Jacek (and hopefully Jerzy Glowczewski) in Poland next week. I’m traveling out there for the Goraszka airshow. Will be great to see a BBMF spitfire flying over Warsaw!

I think they’ve done a great job with the paint work.

A very devout CL-44 fan from my side of the North Sea tried to get things moving regards the Guppy CL-44-0.
Alas, all his efforts came to nought… 🙁

He wouldn’t mind now if someone else stepped in. 😉

The CL-44 Association is a very strict “No No” as this association will be wound up in a couple of months, see http://www.cl44.org/ for that.

In the past some organisations have put a superficial interest in perhaps saving the cockpit of this “one-of-a-kind” bird plus perhaps some spare parts.
If someone/an organisation still has a genuine interest into preserving at least part of the Guppy, then please contact Heavylift at Fax + 61 2 9232 4668 .

We faxed a letter to Heavy Lift a couple of weeks ago but haven’t heard anything yet. We’ve offered a home to a large portion of the aircraft. I think we’ll give them a call tomorrow and see what thier thoughts are! – I cant say too much about it yet, but if anything comes of it, then I’ll be sure to let you all know!

This has been the rumor at Scampton for some time… I’m told that their accommodation at Waddington is well under way. I just hope that a safe outcome can be found for Scampton… I was on th base yesterday and see that there is external work being done of one of the hangars… I’ve no idea why, but I’m sure someone must have a use in mind for it!… I wonder if we’ll have to find a new home for VX927?

None of them have flown since arriving at Kemble.

XH131 – External storage – Looks a bit of a state due to paintwork deterioration.
XH134 – Internal Storage – Excellent condition, capable of ground running.
XH135 – External Storage – Good condition – capable of ground running.

All are reported to be still up for sale through one of the other well known magazines.

Any idea how much for a PR9?

I hope I dont come in for too much flack on this, but it really is an ugly looking thing isn’t it.. I mean the Mk1 nose!

Not withstanding the fact that I dont like the look of it, I wish you all th very best of luck, and congratulate you on the progress you’ve made!

Well done… you’re a credit to the preservation scene!

I did speak to David Thomas about the display routine and it was included in the lottery bid as the HLF wanted to see what the display was about.
It will, I think be a lighter version than the original RAF version though similar. Keeping the engines, airframe and undercarriage from too much stress will be the name of the game this time round. Having now heard a few times 558 sounds more like a 301 engined Vulcan, she is not so screachy now.
Soon you will be able to see for yourself at RAF Scampton when the crew go through the routine. If you can pop £5 in the e donate though, just to help her a long in leiu of a commerical sponsor. Ta

903… Is it confirmed that she will do her display practice at Scampton? Does anyone have any idea when this will be?

Another clue…..you wouldn’t find on the RAF website but it did see British military service!

And has it just been retired from the British military… Like Army or Navy?… Was it flying up until it’s retirement?

Is it an aircraft that was flying up until 31st March 2008, or has it ended it’s days an an instructional airframe?
