It says the aeroplane has been cleared……not the pilots.
Possibly may be able to do the DA on the Friday, as long as there is the appropiate CAA DA person on site to grant it etc.
Pressume it’s not the same as a foreign mil pilot doing a practice display on a Friday for approval as this isn’t for a CAA DA, and the Vulcan pilots need a CAA DA…..???Should be all systems go for RIAT though with any luck, even if a Waddo display isn’t on.
You might be right, but I always thought that the regulations governing airshows were laid down by the CAA, even if they are military shows, and that the CAA issued the display authority to foreign air arms when they participated at UK shows.
I might be wrong with that, but that was always my understanding of it.
Picking up on what pen Pusher has just said…
Has it had the permit to fly granted, or has it just been given permission to make a one way flight to the show? If the permit has been issued then is there any reason why it cant do it’s display authorization flight on Friday like many of the foreign aircraft attending the show will do?
East Midlands Today – News Clip
Either way… well done
I cant believe it… Smiling from ear to ear… GREAT. WELL DONE!
Staying on topic, has anyone seen the Yale project advertised on Barnstormers?
Yes… I have.
It looks like a good buy to me. If only I had a few more $$$’s and a few less projects then I could be tempted!
VX927
By any chance is the DH2 in question the one that was built at Lands End? I wondered what had happened to it.
To be honest with you, I dont know off the top of my head… But I’ll find out. I do know that she’s been sat in a barn somewhere for quite a few years! I hope to be able to get some photos of her soon!
Thank you everyone who has helped and posted links… As always it’s much appreciated.
When we had the DH2 flying replica at Duxford, this had a deactivated Lewis gun. The gun had been fitted with a blanking plate under the ammo drum. I did find scale plans for the Lewis in an early Scale Modeler magazine late 70s/early 80s.
Dave
You’re right Dave. In fact, I think until quite recently the aircraft had the gun fitted however, it is no more!!!!!
Anyway, good news is that the aircraft is being assembled one more and should be flying again very soon! I’m not 100% sure, but I think this is the same DH2 that was flying at Duxford.
VX927 do you have a DH2 to put it on? Or are you perhaps thinking of building one?????
Not personally… but I know a man who does!
The gun I’m looking for is for a very good friend of mine.
I’ll try and post some photo’s of the DH2 in the coming weeks when she finally takes to the air!
Thank you everyone who has replied so far… Texantom… Thanks for the links. I’ll let you know the cost when i get a reply!
It was indeed a unique moment…
If I can add a couple of my own photos…

Going home…

I’ve posted a few more photo of the show under the photography section.
Does anyone have any photos taken at cockpit fest that they can post?
Simple really……………because the official Permit to Fly has still to be granted by CAA, and the Pilots still need a Display Authorisation from the same body.

Paul
Thanks Paul,
But that doesn’t really answer the question. The question is “whats changed” They (TVOC) were telling us that they were hoping to display the Vulcan at Cosford on Sunday after a test flight on the Friday before. There is no way that she would have had her permit, but they say that she could have displayed, if she’d had her test flight. Now she’d had her test flight, but she cant display until she’s got the permit. So, like I said… Whats changed?
Can someone please tell me what’s changed….
I’ve just been reading the TVOC website and the latest news written by Rusty about how they had hoped that Cosford would be the show where they brought 558 to the Public, but it wasn’t to be because the test flight on the Friday had to be cancelled.
Then, later on she tells us that the test flights are finished but Waddington is a “target not a commitment”. IF they are being serious in what they say, and they really think that they were going to be able to display 558 at Cosford without the permit in place, then what aren’t they applying the same ‘rules’ for Waddington and confirming that she’ll be there now that the test flights are finished?
I posted this link a couple of months ago…

From memory, I dont think it ever sold, or certainly not on the auction site. It might be worth trying to contact the owner?
At today rate, it’s about £2500…
I cant think of any specific examples, but I’m sure there are still a few d-day Austers flying around.
It would serve those of us researching various aspects of aviation history if the comments on this (and other!) threads (and on other Fora) could be restricted to verifiable FACTS. From those facts one can – by a process of calculated logical deduction and reasoned argument – expect to formulate a prognosis which can be tested against subsequently discovered, or announced, facts.
Rumour, Bar Scuttlebutt, Innuendo, etc, have often been found wanting in the past.
But please don’t let me stop you posting the slanted invective that flashes up on my screen day-by-day.
Makes East Enders/Holby City look like Andy Pandy. If XH558 flies – then great. But if it never gets off the ground again it will not cause The End Of The World. Can we just keep things in the proper perspective?

Thats a great idea, but as I said in an earlier post, this last weekend I asked the same question to three different TVOC people at Cosford airshow, and got three different answers… It seems that even the public face of TVOC dont even know the facts… They dont even know what story to stick too… So what chance is there of seeing any facts on here?
What chance do they have in getting 558 up in the air when they can not even get a display trailer to an event.
Burlington… Thats a bit harsh!
I was in a vehicle behind their trailer when it got stuck under the bridge. TVOC had given it to a private firm to move… If the driver doesn’t know the height of the load he’s carrying then it’s not exactly TVOC’s fault. HOWEVER…
What TVOC do need to do is get their story straight. It doesn’t matter what story they come up with, just make sure you’re all sining off the same sheet! I asked the same question to 3 different people and got 3 different answers!
I also think the jumped the mark a little with all the Costford 2008 badges they had…. Several hundred at the start of the day… Several hundred at the end of the day! Another great use of money by the marketing PR team!
