Great news… Do you have any photos of her?
Not much really… Just this old bowl!!!! It looks like any old bowl but when you turn it over, it’s stamped German Luftwaffe 1939! Funny to think that this bowl survived who whole war in Poland. I rescued it at Christmas last year after someone served me mashed potato in it!!!
Are you only interested in the big stuff?
I might (and it is only a might) have a contact in Poland who can help. I’ll ask the question for you, but I think it’s going to be a long shot!
I am loving the fact that, over the years, every hurdle that has been put in front of them, they have jumped. However, instead of acknowledging the achievment of so many people involved, some are already putting up the next fence, hoping for a fall. I hope you are all continually proved wrong for many years to come…
Where do you people keep getting this from… that no one has acknowledged what has been done. We’re all on here for the love of aircraft. I think I speak for most (even those who doubt the future of the project) when I say that it’s an amazing achievement that she ever flew again. BUT… The reality of it is that TVOC are the biggest pessimists out there when it comes to the Vulcan. Why cant the supporters of the project take off the blinkers and see the errors? No one wants it to fail. No one is putting up fences in the hope that it will fail. What we’re simply saying is that unless there are some drastic changes, then it will be difficult for the project to survive.
I think Joe is right… Hangarage is killing the project… along with the “consultancy fees” well, now that the bird is flying, and 2Excel in on board, lets hope we see a drastic reduction in the “consultancy fees”…
May I suggest you go back a read tudor’s post on 12th March… I think he sums it up better than most
Lastly…. GET HER OUT OF BRUNTINGTHORPE AND BRING HER TO SCAMPTON!!!!!:D
What is the actual current status of the Sea Vixen? Is she airworthy and able to attend shows or is she stuck on the ground because of the operating costs? Will we see her at any airshows soon?
Mondariz,
I posted a similar question about 6 months ago and got a nice reply from someone (forgive me but I forget who it was).
The book you want is “European Military Out Of Service 2007 – Formally known as European Wrecks & Relics. It’s published by Scramble and is a great book.
Merlin 70. The wrecks and relics you’re referring too only covers the UK… i think Mondariz is looking for something that covers the rest of Europe.
I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post the link but I’ll give it a go!… http://www.scramble.nl
Soldiers could guard street corners and shopping ,alls etc, but not start a world war 3. As its a deterent. The police don’t do much.
P.S I did,nt mean to say the troops should shoot everything, all i meant was they could be put on sentry duty on street corners and shops etc George
Is that really what you want? To walk down the street on a night time passes armed soldiers… Any how many people do you think would actually apply to join the armed forced if they know they were going to spend the next 22 years sat outside Morisons holding a cap gun?
You need to think about what you’re actually proposing… It’s utterly ridiculous.
Sorry to go off an a tangent!
I wish i could have a fight with whoever done done this.
Why are our forces in iraq and afganistan when there are problems that need to be sorted out here.:( 😡 🙁 😡
George
Thats it george… You tell those hoodies… If you dont then then the army will!
I dont think things are quite so bad here that we need to send in the army… As for wanting a fight with one of the arm swinging hoodies…. We just a justice system… Not a boxing ring.
Moggy, if I may just quote a small section from that from page….
Look at this… Absolute magic….
“Donations and New Membership: These are continuing at a very gratifying level. So much so that we have had to make room for several pairs of extra hands in the office to help with backlog of data input. However it is not yet time to rest on our laurels your continued efforts are still essential if XH558 is to make the start of the airshow season.”
Brilliant… New members come in… more staff come in… thats just what TVOC need…. More staff in the office – Is that a change of rolls for existing staff, or a new vacancy that been made?! They don’t even have an automated system on the website for registering members… Come on… I’m no web master, but even I know that is simple stuff!!!!
Sorry, I’m being negative again… go tvoc go… You can do it!
Actually it probably does; a friend of mine works in the motor sport, and she reckons that whilst companies within the motor industry are still willing to get the cheque book out, many other sponsors are increasingly nervous. Whether due to nurturing their ‘green credentials’ or general ecconomics, she does not know. But she certainly believes that motor sport is and will find it increasingly hard to find sponsors due to enviromental considerations.
Steve
You may well be right, and if your friend is in the trade then I will bow down to her superior knowledge.. But the reality is that I dont think we’ll be seeing any sponsorless F1 cars this season… The world wide coverage is just too great! And thats what sponsorship is all about… paying your money and being seen. Put your name to the vulcan and you might be able to get some “corporate chocks” – Sorry, I’m being flippant there, but industry obviously doesn’t think it’s a good investment or they’d be queuing up to sign her.. Now I know that we’ve all been lead to believe that they ARE queuing up to sign her… It’s just a shame that that has changed from ARE to WERE… and all because of a change the economy, and the green debate… I don’t think so!!!!!
Going slightly more off-track for a moment….I too fear the “green” issue is now likely to severely limit sponsorship opportunities – and is probably the one major factor few of us would have worried about ten years ago. At what point does supporting a fossil fuel burning project (albeit one with a supposed, if limited, educational aspect) become “public relations suicide” for any sponsor? And thats before the “You’re glorifying War” pressure groups jump on the band wagon.

I actually think that people are making a bigger issue out of the environmental impact than is warranted.
Lets take a look at Formula 1 racing… Now I dont know what the actual impact of formula 1 is. But I do know that there is a list of sponsors as long as your arm willing to pay millions of £££’s to put there name to a ‘dirty (non green) sport’. Whats the difference?… The difference is the Formula 1 is seen by millions all around the world… The vulcan will be seen by thousands in the UK. It’s obviously just not an attractive enough proposition. I dont think that being green has anything to do with it…. Just my thoughts on the subject!
Ahhhh!
Could this perhaps be a reason where a big slice of the folding stuff has dissappeared into an abyss……….legal peoples coffers? 😀
Bomberboy
Thats your name on the list then!!!!
soon as they need volunteers I’m heading there!
I’ll keep you informed!
Sadsack… no change with the Tempest yet… Still waiting for the engine to come back from the states. But I understand that they have started working on it!!! As for a Pilot… I understand that one of the well known ‘warbird’ pilots is already lined up to fly it!!!!
As for the museum at Wickenby… The planning are due to respond by the end of the month. After then, it shouldn’t take too long before things start moving!
LLA owning a Vulcan – Now there’s a bone of contention! I’m with you guys. LLA… It’s supposed to be about the Lancaster! I’m still waiting for my pm!!!!:D
