My ‘beef’ is that I don’t think that the aircraft needs to go on a permit… And if the permit system is oh soooo fantastic, then why aren’t the tigermoth boys, chipmunk boys (to name but a couple) etc all jumping up and down asking for permits?

I feel (personally) that the permit system is inferior to a CofA. Weather I’m right or not, that is my opinion. I do think that the rules on permit aircraft will be tightened up and well, who knows what will happen.

I guess my days of scenic flights around Lincoln are finished… What is it… No flying over built up areas… I better start taking an interest in fields!!!!

Please tell me, apart from the fact that you can all put dodgy parts on your aircraft, what is the great appeal to the permit? In all seriousness, perhaps I’m uneducated on the matter, but i really don’t see the great appeal…

Nashio… Good point! I could have sworn that I’d seen a photo of a chinook carrying a lightning many moons ago, but I cant find it anywhere… From looking on the internet, I’m not so sure if a chinook could lift one… Maybe we can cake the engines out of her? That has to be easier than splitting her in half to remove the wings?

Am I living in cloud cookoo land or is it an option (all be it a remote one)

It seems such a shame to see her sat there like that. But then again, if you’ve been to Binbrook in the last 2 years then you’ll know what a shame the whole place has become.

There is more than one way to skin a cat… I cant speak officially, but there is plenty of room at Scampton. Yes it’s not going to be easy to get her there, but there must be ways. Are there any lifting straps available at all? Has anyone thought of asking the Chinook OCU if they could lift her somewhere (scampton?) as part of a training exercise? Just a thought!

    Firebird,
Do you have a contact for the owner?…

I think this is a real shame and in my personal opinion, it’s a waste of a perfectly good aircraft. I’m too fond of my aircraft for this to be a reason to get rid of her, but I feel really saddened that this decision has come about… What a waste. There is no need for the aircraft to have to go on a permit… Great. Now lets just line up against the wall and watch EASA shaft all permit aircraft. Again, it’s only my opinion, but I can see it coming.

    Lincoln…
50 years of rain falling out of a gutter onto the building has severely damaged one of the walls, and the frost has got hold in many places. Dont get me wrong.. It’s not falling down, but it’s not ready to ‘move into’… It needs a lot of work. Why wont the farmer sell… I’ve no idea… Maybe because he doesn’t need to… He said he would sell to us (which is why i took a builder on site), but he didn’t give a price, and I know he’d want a lot from it. I’ll post some pics I’ve just found a bit later on this evening… you’ll see, some parts are in very good condition, but I remember the one wall that was very bad… Still, like I said… It’s not beyond saving.

Wow 😮 I had no idea that was still there, I just assumed it was all back to farm land now, that’s fantastic its still almost complete, sort out the damp, a few windows, lick of paint be a great little museum.

Dont forget the 2 new walls it needs!!! Then all you’ve got to do is persuade the farmer to sell it… Believe me, I’ve tried! Got as far as taking a builder there, but, IMHO, thats the hardest part… getting the owner to part with it… Good luck!!

As for the glass house on the top… dont be deceived by the photos… it’s not recoverable… new build, maybe… renovation… i dont think so.

I’ll try and dig out some of the photo’s I took.

Lastly, can i just add… i think a bit of ‘modern’ footage would be good… Or i it a tribute to the development of the aircraft rather than the actual aircraft?

    Blue Sky,

For what it’s worth, here are my thoughts… I though that the introduction was too long… 18seconds of a 1 minute film is a long time to introduce “Vulcan – cold war warrior”. I couldn’t read the text while watching the Vulcan roll… I think it speaks for itself… I’d loose the text, and increase the picture size.

But overall, i think it’s great… Far better than i could do!!!

    Nick,

Did I see that you are selling the Kraguj, or is it another which I’ve seen? I’ve spent many hours walking around the one at Wickenby wishing I could fly it, but it’s too expensive for me! Just out of interest, why did it get a PFA permit, when all things being equal, it should have a CAA permit? Anyway, well done on getting her airworthy.

    Billyh,

They are very impressive. Can i ask how you make photo’s / film / effect like that? Is it done with still photo’s or a video camera? Or is it fancy software? Either way, I really like them. Thanks for sharing them with us.

No aircraft can be considered ‘virtually’ airworthy. It either is or is not.

I disagree. Many museum aircraft have been restored to an airworthy condition, even though there were never any plans to fly them. They are there for (IMHO) ‘virtually airworthy’. When only a piece of paper stands in the way of an aircraft being able to fly, then I would agree with Creaking Door and say that the aircraft is “Virtually Airworthy”.

How much is 558 going to cost an airshow organiser? I really dont see the need for a £5 increase, certainly at places like waddington. A £1 increase would give them an extra £250,000. If we go down this route, then would we be prepared to pay an extra £20 per person on top of the current prices? I mean, it’s only £5 for the vulcan, oh and an extra £5 for a shackleton, and £5 for a victor, and lets pay another £5 for well, take your pick… lightning or comet? Suddenly Mr and Mrs Smith will be paying the thick end of £200 for a day out to show little Jonny and his brother a few aircraft. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

    Cypherus,
I see… That would explain why the Green Goddesses are still there then. They would certainly need some work before any aircraft could operate from there. Out of the two ‘bad’ hangars, one is defiantly in far worse condition than the other.

As for the runway… We’ve not been given a date for when the work will be carried out, but have been told that it will be some time during 2008… Again, I wouldn’t take this a gospel given the rumors that fly around regarding Scampton.

I wonder what obligation English Heritage have to maintain the hangars sine they took ‘control’ of he site.
