    Cypherus,
With regards to Scampton, I think you’ve painted a far worse picture than it really is. While the runway is in need of an overhaul, there is nothing wrong with its immediate condition. A lot of work has been carried out to ensure that the runway is serviceable, which is how 9 bright red hawks are able to fly out of there every day!!! I also fly an aircraft from Scampton so, while I’m no expert, I can at least confirm that the runway is serviceable. I’m also lead to believe that the runways will be resurfaced next year, although I cant confirm this… There are almost as many rumors about Scampton as there are the Vulcan!!!. With regards to hangars. Were they actually declared unsafe?… If so, then I would have thought that they would be locked and marked as out of bounds, but this is not the case… On the contrary, they are currently being used to store several hundred (at a guess!) Green Goddesses, and I think there was a couple of hunters in one of them too (that’s aside from HAA main hangars at the back of the airfield). I don’t know what has moved into the Tucano Servicing hangar since the Tucano’s left… Maybe it’s empty?

So TVOC… It’s only my opinion, but I think Scampton would make the idea operating base for 558! Then all we need is to get the BBMF over… If only them rumors were true!!!!

I think this just goes to show how the rumor network works… Some people thinking that the CAA will only allow her to fly from Bruntingthorpe… I was told the complete opposite! I was told that because of the fire cover at Bruntingthorpe, she would have to fly from somewhere else… I understood that Scampton was on the cards, although I have seen so sign of any work going on here to accommodate her. Only time will tell!

Thanks for all the replies so far.

    Ag Cat,

I cant disagree with some of the points you raise, however… Given the farcical states of the current permit system, i think it is only a matter of time before EASA clamp down on this… then were will the Austers be?

You cant count the Auster Club forum for anything… Certainly not as any form of poll. I think there are about 300 Austers on the CAA register. Are you telling me that 150+owners want to go on a permit? There is no record of this… ANYWHERE!!! The forum ended up as a small minority fighting amongst themselves. Their behavior was outrageous and I think they should be ashamed of themselves… Whoever they are. I digress…

The reality is that i bought an aircraft with a CofA… And I would like her to retain that CofA. Now, if thats not possible, then we’ll have to think again, but at the moment, I’m happy to remain as we are, and keep flying our aircraft.

    Only time will tell…………

Lincoln… Maybe today would be the perfect day for 558 to come into waddington. yes there is a do on, but there are also lots of military type people at the airfield to see this ‘do’… Sounds like a good way to show off the achievement, bearing in mind that the RAF have assisted with the project… Just a thought!

Ag cat is right. Steps are being taken, and it looks like the TRA will remain.

But Ag cat… I’m not so sure you’re right about the MAJORITY of Auster owners being unhappy with their aircraft retaining a CofA. It’s been debated time and time again, but the reality is that on one has ever conducted a poll. Personally, I’d be against my Auster going onto a permit!

I thought that the flights too and from airshows were a major part of classic flights business? I would have thought that a move to St Mawgan would have a negative impact on this. Surly it needs to be a more central location. I appreciate that aircraft could be ferried to an airport from which they could take passengers, but this will all add to the costs…

This forum never ceases to amaze me. Peter… thank you for such a quick reply!

So, is it just one of those things that happens, or is excess fuel deliberately pumped into the engine prior to ignition? Forgive my ignorance but I’m more used to the coughing and spluttering of a gipsy major!

I must say, it’s always nice to see the Hunters up at Scampton… Especially the 2 seat one that was out today! I think it’s a far nicer looking aircraft than the single seat hunter (which is still a wonderful looking machine!)!!

Sorry – No offence to anyone flying microlights!!!!
