    One under the snow

Before you ask, I’ve got no idea how it ended up like that

    Richard

Many years ago at primary school, we had a teacher who was a delivery pilot flying planes from Canada to the UK for war purposes. He told us a story about taking off one day, had a total engine(s) failure and had no option but to land on a frozen lake. Due to no hydraulics he couldn’t lower the wheels so it was belly down and slide. Went all across the lake and finally stopped, buried under snow on the far side bank. No one was hurt and the aircraft was recovered.

But then the attack/rescue teams would only be trained for a B747. This aircraft has various configurations, note the 2 cockpits for a start. We may be up-side-down to you lot, but we’re not daft.

It makes me smart to use this as a link, but it has 4 wheels and looks WW2…

Now there’s a love affair if ever there was one. Nice paint job though.:D

    Looks like the Sud-Ouest SO.6021.

Whatever it is, it’s a wonder it got off the ground with those massively over grown legs.

Fabulous photos guys, especially of the mighty Bevs. Ex 47 Sqdn at Abingdon myself. 1 years only alas then off to my fitters course. I remember seeing an early production Whispering Tit doing touch and go’s one day and even then I thought it would never be as good as a Bev. Faster, maybe, but useless in all other ways. Not that I was biased lol.

Keep em coming lads, keep em coming.

Benyboy, thanks for the trip back in time. I served with 47 Sqdn at Abingdon and took my first flight in a Bev. Marvellous aircraft. Whist it’s great to see this one displayed at Fort Paulli, being the only one left, I do feel that it should be inside, and fully returned to ‘as was’ condition, particularly the internals. From your photos, I see that all the sound proofing is missing and many odd posts and beams have been added. There’s even a wall missing in front of the hatches to the boom. We used to have a pair of proper aircraft seats situated between the hatches for ground crew. I remember well the looks of disgust from a pongo (army) officer when he had to sit in those net seats, whilst I and my mate had a proper seat. We kept him out of it by leaving our head sets connected and sitting on the seats.

I can’t see from your photos but is the APU still in situ on the ‘Band stand’ (lower deck up forward….drop aimers window area)? Also, have you any cockpit photo’s?

I thought you might like to see my latest video on YouTube.

    http://youtu.be/B9MvMcsAyCo?hd=1

    Please watch it all.

    Tony.

I don’t normally watch music videos but for a change today, I did and found your post. Absolutely brilliant Tony. A beautiful mixture of sound, vision and emotion. It’s a great pity that the subject matter is all too real in today’s world, and far to many people are ignorant of the pain that ones sexual preference can cause. I’m “straight” but have many true friends who live with persecution on a daily basis.

    Thank you once again Tony

Hmmmm. Got a crystal ball have we Dr P? Your scenario re the collapse of US domination could well be ‘on the ball’. However, some well meant criticism. Some of your sentences are way too long and rambling. Break them down a bit and add some clarity. Continuity. The aircraft is sitting at the end of runway 3, but later taxis to it ?? Time frames jump on too fast, eg, time from engine start to taxiing. In weather that cold, I think there’d be a considerable warm up time. Oh, and the mysterious friend. Whist it’s not impossible to have a friend who is somewhat mysterious, I doubt that that is the impression you’re after. An un-named stranger who acted mysteriously is more likely.

Sorry to be picky but I read a lot and have trouble with many writers. I also hate poor continuity in films or TV programs. It’s so obvious to us viewers I sometimes wonder what the editors get paid for.

Not all his students appear to listen.

There was a time the Americans were losing more servicemen on the roads of Suffolk than Helmand. 😮

    Moggy

Glad you said ‘was a time’ moggy. That’d be before he took over.:D

RAF Feltwell is the schooling centre for all the military families’ kids from Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Feltwell itself……
    Moggy

I’ll try for confirmation but my son(RAF) is in charge of training American servicemen to drive on the left, at Mildenhall. I’m not sure about the families.
