what a shame on the Typhoon…what is the history behind this recovery? was this the one at Tangmere museum or another one? Still looking for some main spars 10 years down the line…and there they were lol
There have been many breakdowns and tears over Typhoons lol I would love to see your Typhoon pics though
Cees mentioned there are enough parts in the UK to build a third Wellington…there are numerous other examples where there are enough parts to build a complete example of a rare aircraft one being a Typhoon. Trying to get all these parts in one place is the difficult part….one day maybe!!!
I would have to see a couple of different views of it to be 100% but I am fairly sure it is not Typhoon or Tornado….never seen a panel that looks like that and the angles don’t look right
For me it has to be a
Typhoon
and with some left over money a
Tornado (vulture type)
(to be displayed next to the Typhoon and one of the the existing Hurricanes & Kermitts Tempest V….would that cover WWII Hawker aircraft?)
I saw these remains a few weeks ago…consisted of the cockpit floor and side (pilots side). Included the seat and control column. There were various other parts in a big box next to it. I was going back to get a picture after I had seen what I was looking for but totally fogot!!! Sorry Cees.
anyone have any thoughts on this?
thanks for the post…you are correct!! I am thinking of that museum…can’t seem to find anyone that has visited and managed to get some clear pics of the Typhoon parts recovered.
that would be great if you have any pictures of the typhoon parts. I have some pictures but they concentrated on the engine and the cockpit parts in a display case….there are other parts in the shots but I can’t tell exactly what they are. I was told there were parts from 2 recovered typhoons, can’t recall the serial numbers off the top of my head but one was MN (142 I think) and the other was a JR range.
Keep your eye out for Typhoon drawings 🙂
well….always worth asking and one day something might turn up 🙂
There are still some places available for the bomber harris evening….call or PM me if you are interested….
Jerry…sent you a PM
Sent you a mail last night…. 🙂
Cees,
I have not really been able to determine what happened to the Sabres when the Typhoons were scrapped. Many of the Typhoons were unused with almost zero hour engines….with the Tempests still flying perhaps some of these were taken to keep the Tempests in the air. The engines that were used….there are some rumours that they were buried much like the unsalvageable parts of the Typhoons. There was alot of alloy in them but would it have been worth the time splitting these down? I would love to hear from anyone that knows anything different….
Thanks for the reply…I am wondering (hoping) if there are any records left from the late 40’s on airframes that they had for training purposes. Would they record when they received them? When they disappeared off the inventory….perhaps what happened to them after they finished with them. The school would have taken over the airframe in April 1946 (a Typhoon) and I have seen several pictures of it with various panels removed as they have been working on it.
