Tell ’em who you are and who your assosiated with ‘monkey boy’ and also tell them about the Lightnings we have here and I’m sure you’ll get the VIP treatment. Don’t tell snotty Scotty though! He’ll be well miffed!! 😀 😀
When you coming up the Museum Kev. We’re all missing you and hope your getting better 😉
I’m at a loss! What I will say though is if we ever went to war against the Russians, we wouldn’t have a chance in the air, even if the Typhoon was fully operational!!
It would be nice to see this aircraft at the Air Tattoo this year if it is true, can’t wait.
How can it flip over like that, does it have vectored nozzles cause their are no canards?
This Island with the E28/39 on, is literally 30 seconds away in my car from where I live. If any one wants any photo’s of this monument I will gladly rattle a load off and post them on this thread. Just let me know! 🙂
I also used to live in an area where low flying fighters was a common sight! I still wish for those days gone by when I was sat in the garden in the country and an F4 Phantom howled overhead about 150ft up or when you could watch a pair of A10’s come over the brow of the hill upside down hugging it as close as possible then watching them turn above me at a 90 degree angle, so close, you could see the whites of the pilots eye’s as he looked down at me!!!!
Happy days, gone forever
Your idea is a good one David. The only way we can move the BP is by going round the back of the Argosy and to do that we need to remove the fencing and the Airport security don’t like us doing that! I wonder why?
Jacking it up and putting it on a bomb trolley would work the only problem is all of the aircraft jacks we have are un-servicable apart from one so it proves a bit difficult. Do you know anyone that could loan and deliver some to us………..oh, and a bomb trolley as well!
Could you imagine the authorities here if one of our guys did it, the poor sod would be grounded for life!
On the quiet though, don’t you just wish it happened here
The Dambusters is still a good idea in the re-make sector but as a few comments show, it must be kept british. British actors, not American, the good old British Lancaster bomber and not a B17 or B24 and a Black Labrador called ‘Nigger’, not a Collie dog called Lassie! That should work well…..oh and keep the music score from the original film! 😉
I think from what I’ve heard from our counterparts down the road, Mike Collett has mentioned this before as a possiblity, which then becomes a rumour, that then turns into concrete evidence that no one is really sure about as being definate!! You get my drift?
Until an official press release has been given by Mike to Flypast or Aeroplane magazine lets just say that they will remain at Coventry.
To be honest Chris I think the colour scheme is important on any aircraft, but at the end of the day, that isn’t what keeps WK163 in the air, it’s all the staff and vulenteers that do that, so no matter what colour scheme it is, hats off to you all for the job your doing and continue doing so for as long as possible………..
Oh, and make sure you don’t get moving off to any other sites and stay at Coventry. It’s good to have our own selection of display aircraft on our doorstep, regardless of the noise upsetting the neighbours!………crank ’em up!! :diablo:
I’m all for the remake to be honest. It’s definatly a classic and we will continue to watch it for that reason, but surely, most of you, if not all, have watched a movie before that you have really enjoyed and later on in life when you see how effects in films get better and better have thought, ‘how good it would be if they re-made such and such with the effects of today’, I know I have!! One film I always wanted to see remade was War of the Worlds and I got my wish. Ok, it may not have been to the book, but it was closer than the first movie in the 50’s and yes I know it was all good old America all the way but the effects were superb!
Tora Tora Tora is another firm favourite of mine and although Pearl Harbour isn’t a remake of it, I was chuffed to death to hear about a movie being made about the attack on Pearl Harbour again. It gives you the opertunity to see and feel how it was really like back then and the flying sequences in the movie are the dogs b*****ks both the real and CGI sequences.
So on that note I will say go ahead, remake the movie, but keep it British!!! While your at it, re-make the Battle of Britain too and 633 Squadron!! :p
Well it’s pretty obvious that we all have our own opinions regarding the BP 111 but it still remains outside. Perhaps I may of said some words about people I shouldn’t have and I apolagise. I feel strongly about the museum and it’s aircraft and we all work had to keep things running smoothly. It’s just annoying hearing people try to dictate how we should do things at the museum. If it concearns you that much, get off you backsides and come up and help us!!
Using a crane is ok for an aircaft move but we can’t just go and order one. We need to weigh up costs and come up with a plan of movement which takes time, plus also, theirs the small item that needs to be brought to attention regarding the airport. We used a High-ab on the back of an artic wagon to move and lift the Harrier when we aquired her and the airport had a dicky fit at the height it was………30feet!!!
The Boulton Paul P111a is being cared for just the same as all the aircraft at the museum. I can assure you it will continue that way and just to say that hopefully she will be inside very soon!!
