I believe there’s another Vampire located in my neighbouring village if Glentham Lincolnshire. Can anyone shed any light on this one? I believe it’s a T11.
IIRC there was also great reluctance from the Navy as commanders of fleets or aircraft carriers lost a little purpose. It dawned on the carrier captains that they needed to put the ship in a place suitable for its aircraft, and felt that this was a case of the tail wagging the dog. Several books on maritime aviation make reference to this fact.
Yes please Andy. I was there to see it arrive and wow what an entrance! That picture captures it all, grace, pace and forever ace, despite being on finals.
DCW,
I’d like a copy of that lower image in your last post to put on a canvas. Can you put me in the right direction please?
Avion,
Would you prefer it had been burned in the 70’s? Better rebuilt and flying or consigned to history?

Can the mods pin this thread as an example of thread drift.
Cool! I’ve seen and done this on model planes, but never seen it full size…
I watched her rather rapid entry into the Old Warden circuit on Sunday, and subsequent flypast before landing. She looked stunning. I had a close look whilst she was at Duxford a few years back, XF is a beauty from any angle. I’m reading Alex Henshaws book (Flight of the Mew Gull) which he signed. I also took my 7 week old daughter to her first airshow, you can’t start them too soon….
And the flashing gun barrels, oh…..
Boastful moment. The last time I saw Concorde fly was when I was in formation with it in the middle of diamond nine. We closed up enough to hear the roar of its engines over our own aircraft, as we tucked up under it. It was like being beamed aboard the mother ship as we manoeuvred for the photographer. I took lots of images and video footage. The flight was the practise for the golden jubilee flypast over the mall, and we went on a 1:35 sortie over the wash in 2002. We launched from Coltishall and it was a truly memorable experience.
No doubt someone will tell me how inaccurate I’m being, it’s the Flypast Forum way…
As you say Trolley Aux, a great mix of decades of warbird flying in that clip.
I suppose to ever more stringent regulations in all our lives, true low level, close to crowd line flying is becoming a memory. I guess that’s why the Tank Bank at Duxford still reigns supreme as a top viewing area.
Anyone know the average airframe hours of those being retired? Just curious…are they worn out or are they being retired as (another) economy move and to make way for the A330s?
The refridgerant used in the cabin conditioning system is outlawed in. 2015, there are noise penalties that are incurred when it uses non- military uk airfields and the economies of scale with regard to operating cost are literally from another century.
Many happy trips in Tens, and a pleasant time working on them in Base. So long Vicky …
Fantastic news that XF is returning to Shuttleworth. Her first visit there was in 1937. She’s a beautiful machine…
Coltishall, just about the time PM was having her last flights with THUM…
This is the last operational flight, yes? When will their LAST flight be?
Marauder?
