(With apologies to Circus 6)
Chortle… No dramas ket, I wanted to hear more news and not “chit chat”. I’ll extend my apologies as I was having a “no day”.
Why are people getting carried away with whether the wheel covers are inflated/keeping their shape? I’d be more concerned whether the sandy contents of the airframe will tear the structure apart as it’s lifted from its resting place…
I’m glad I’m not the only one who spotted the poster errors. Laughable!
Fancy a pay drop do you?
Not really Tony, no. Nor do I fancy living away from my family (I’ve done more than enough of that already). But with Humberside Airport just 20 mins away, it seems that if I decide to pull the plug on the mob, I’ll be adding to the time I’ve spent on big jets, which is most of my career. Warbirds are my passion (I spent 5 years volunteering at TFC, on a weekly basis), and like the lay of the land. Sadly, whether the money was there or not, it’s not the governing factor on whether I’d apply for the job, as logistically it’s jut too far.
I miss warbirds, very much.
Very, very tempted.
Not meaning to sound insensitive, does anyone know what has become of the DH53 wreckage? If retained (which I’m sure it must have been) is there an intention to rebuild it?
You kept good company Pete. Looking forward to reading the diary (I’m in the Middle East at the mo where internet connection is dire).
Kurt
I thik the P-40B prop needs looking at. The pitch of the blades is all over the place.:diablo:
Yes, I agree about the smoke trail, great isn’t it?!? These modern jets are just too efficient! Smoke on-go!
Like others, I spend too much time wasting life on forums. If I’m not here, I’m on Lotus forums (I own one) and Pistonheads. WIX is good, and I banged out of planetalk years ago.
It’s all too easy to get passionate on forums and too many people troll looking for a keyboard fight. I used to work in warbirds but have no time spare to do that now, so I check in here every few days. I used to think it was desirable to have as many posts as possible, but now I consider that a bad thing! Just ‘stepping away’ from the keyboard makes a massive improvement in the quality of my life, I get loads done (and there are always loads of jobs around the home to do).
So, in short, I’d leave aviation forums completely.
To be fair, you won’t see a whole lot more ‘behind the wire’. The best bit, as pistonrob says is being there ‘after hours’. It’s quiet, its ethereal, it has a distinct smell, better than Duxford, though equally unique.
The unfortunate part of the guided tours are the Chinese Whispers (even though they are meant in the best possible way). I’ve found in my time that a pint of ale, whilst sat in the cockpit of P7 (canopy shut) and just thinking. Fantastic…
Pagen01, can you tell us what the latest news is on the Gannet? I’m looking forward very much to seeing this on the display circuit.
Wasn’t a Catalina scrapped at Shannon recently?
