Wow, I’m finding myself agreeing with Chox on a few of his points!
Defending the RAF (and I work at Waddington), it has a LOT of assets (planes and crews) working overseas at the moment. That’ll explain the lack of presence. That said…..
I remember writing to my boss when he asked for comments about the airshow in 2006 and I reeled off loads of things that could have made the airshow outstanding as opposed to an almost ran. My comments fell on deaf ears.
The RAF generally isn’t too interested in hosting airshows. Most personnel are hard pushed to work when overseas commitments are high, it means working an EXTRA weekend beyond normal commitments. Of course the odd crewman will be happy to come and get lubricated, which will make the nause worth it.
There isn’t a lot of spare cash to go pumping fuel into the aircraft.
The airshow office at Waddington has a full time staff employed year round to organise this event and I’m ALWAYS left wondering WHY the show is so dire. I can only think that they work so hard that they don’t get out to SEE other shows. Maybe they ought to.
Waddington is a charity show and for that reason it’s a success.
Go to Leuchars, it’s much better, for an RAF show.
Waddington Air Show Office:- Go and do some homework.

Is it just going to carry two fat blokes then?
60% of a Halifax seems a bit ambitous 😀
Ah, in only 50odd posts you’ve submitted Smirky, you’ve already got the pessimism of a wrinkly forumite.
If you’ve got nothing respectful or useful to add, add nothing.

Hello
Heres what we did to Spitfire Mk18 SM969 for Jim Beasley

WOW! The best news for me warbird-wise! I so hope it’ll be at….oh you know!:p
I heard politics at EK….some young thruster decided it could earn more revenue, some old thrusters lost a Spitfire. The Major is still in the seat, we are all still in awe.

Thanks guys, these are what i have on my pc, apologies i don’t know who took them to credit.
This is the scheme i’m going to do my 2nd Parkzone P-51 in 🙂
Is one of the images (with the TriStar) in Base Hangar at Brize Norton??

I’ll PM his contact number, when I’ve chatted with him to confirm he’s happy with that. I’ll get back to you soon.
Cheers,
Kurt
Interesting thread. Gone from wishing the pilot well and hoping he’s ok and to a speed recovery of a historic Hurricane aircraft to a debate over whether its right or wrong to photograph an aircraft misap. I wonder how many of you if told there were pics of say a spitfire wheels up on youtube would go and have a look.
Oh and god forbid use the word crash, when it obviously did’nt. However it was’nt a traditional landing and it will be fixed.
picky picky pickyHow long will it go on for!
Have to agree UNC….FF is a bitchy home for the terminally bored.
well, once in a blue moon you might find us within 150 miles of each other!
jim harley
Sick with envy….:o
Are you going to sort out the paint on that prop when it gets here? :p
I hope they do Steve, it looks like it was painted in the same manner as SM969 when DA owned it….wheel into paint shop and drop a grenade into the paint!
When can we expect her to be leaving us?
Cheers, Huw:)
In the traditional TFC style, I’m sure it’ll be after that summer show at the beginning of July. Someone in TFC will be able to answer that question IF Mr Grey has allowed that info to go to the public domain.
C6
One of my favourites too, though as Mr Collins said, it’ll help with funding for other aircraft. Remember there’s a recession and that TFC is the Grey family’s “trainset”. Be thankful for the superb contents of Hanger 2 South at Duxford, plus other goodies waiting in the wings… I couldn’t help it, sorry!
Cheers

I saw you questions about Walter Richardson. I believe that he was a relation of mine and I have been trying to find some information about him. Did you receive any info or photo’s about him. If you did I would be pleased to here from you.
Regards
Steve
Hi Steve,
If you know his son Keith, he has all the information. I received lots of info from the RAF Museum and found out how Walter was ejected from the aircraft. If you don’t have Keiths contact info, I can provide it with his consent.
Cheers,
Kurt
Tell you something for nothing Mark12, your pictures are simply fab. Can you put ALL of your collection into the public domain?!?!?!?
Amazing, thank you.
Kurt
Another thing…. I’ve long been curious about the fin – why it is wedge-shape? The tiny amount I know about aerodynamics screams “wrong” but it obviously wasn’t.
Roger Smith.
Hi Roger,
Justan educated guess about the fin, but I think it’s to create a ‘swirl’ behind the surface that would ‘pull’ at the back of the aircraft, keeping it tracking correctly. Slower aircraft (BAe Systems Hawk for example) have this feature on the trailing edge of their undamped rudder. The tug created by the swirl or vortex keeps dragging the surface straight. It works in theory and hope it’s correct!!!:o
