Low and Slow,
Thank you for your useful advice! I’m realising as time goes by I’m getting no younger (36 now) and aviation has often been just looking skywards and backseat trips in all sorts. I’ll be in touch with my local strut soon (I have a day off tomorrow), so will seek further advice from them.
Good stuff, thanks

Lindy’s Lad,
Ah, I’ll need a licensed engineer? That’s good, I know a few of those, and have done some work towards that myself. I’m assuming that I’ll be able to carry out general maintenance myself, and get it signed off by a licensed eng?
Hangarage sounds a lot, maybe I ought to contact the airfield in question.
I’ll ask for a look at the log books, and hopefully will move on from there.
Thank you,
Circus 6
Chox,
Can you tell us YOUR ideas for the PERFECT airshow please? Oh and the criteria is aircraft that are airworthy and capable of making it to the UK.:)
Kurt
As for Hendon hands on in a DC-10 cockpit that was covered in plastic so all you could do is look and a Vampire? or was it a JP that you could sit in but again covered in thick plastic so you cant touch anything admittedly they have a lot of original WW2 stuff in there but they’ve also got nearly new stuff as well. Take the Phantom for instance. Platform up the side of it so you can see in the cockpit but why do they have to have the canopys closed? having them open would give a far better view.
Give me Duxford with a hands on policy every time it gives me a feeling of sattisfaction and a longing to go back. Unlike Hendon were one visit is one to many.
Quid 41,
It’s a TriStar simulator, not a DC-10 cockpit (or more correctly, flight deck). The Phantom is historically important (please feel free to research its history), so keeping the canopies closed to prevent the ingress of FOD is a good way to go to preserve the interior. As for “nearly new”, the Phantom Fleet was retired 17 years ago…and in the field of aviation, that’s quite some time!
As for your other points, I concur, hands on is good for non airworthy exhibits and where there is more than one example extant.
Is there a mozzie being restored to flying condition in NZ?
I surprised there’s nothing happening in the UK, or is there?
Why are you surprised Mark? The Mosquito being of largely wooden construction is a tricky beast to restore. Each half of the fuselage was originally formed in concrete moulds before being fitted out and joined. Carrying out a repair (or restoration) of this bonded Ply/Balsa/Ply laminate to airworthy status would be difficult. Also, adhesives that were used back in the 40’s may be troublesome to assess for integrity today. The later dH 103Hornet was withdrawn owing to delamination when operating in the humid Far East.
Add to this that there isn’t a private individual who owns a Mossie to use as a suitable candidate for a restoration, and it’s not hard to realise why there isn’t a UK restoration happening.:)

Thank you for posting the pics Brian….awesome. Worth the entry fee on its own in my eyes!
Well done all at TFC!
Thanks,
Kurt
DCK,
As a boy I was always impressed with G-WULF, a 5/8 scale lookalike. Even though it was powered by a light aircraft engine, it really looked great and was often put in scenarios with “proper” warbirds.
PANT PEEING…..I’ll be doing a whole heap more than that, I’ll be going to Legends!

I watched a piston Provost depart Waddington today.
Sad news, my respects to the crew and families.
Kurt
As one of the guys involved with making the move happen, I’d like to put in my two penneth.
Firstly, XR770 is looking great. The painters really pulled it out of the bag to get it all done in time. Gloss Schmoss. She’ll look as good next year and the year after.
The Blissetts…..Well done! You took a redundant aircraft, didn’t cut off the wings or tail and made it HAPPEN! Lesley, you make a fab hostess and I can heartily recommend your soup, bread rolls and beer…nice one, thank you.
770’s future is secure, and her condition is a credit to the people who cared, when it was needed and ACTED.
I’m happy to say that I’LL be looking at her on a daily basis on my comings and goings at 5.
WELL DONE ALL.
Kurt
I am appalled by the poor attendance of military hardware this year.
If you look at the last few years it has become evident that this trend has continued and will probably go further now.
Why oh WHY does Fairford get multiples of EVERY aircraft just about and the RAFs “Premier event” can muster only a Typhoon—JUST ONE why?????
I wholly appreciate that commitments can stretch the RAF but is wholly UNACCEPTABLE the level of participation this year.
There is not even the common site of an F16, yet Fairford has several, no F18, yet Fairford has several, zero American hardware–just like last year (oh no I forgot, the B52 was going to fly last year, but there was some bull problem about turning it around!!). No F15s despite the fact they are BASED JUST DOWN THE ROAD—EVEN A DAMN FLYPAST WOULD BE SOMETHING TO SEE.
I am tired of being short changed just because I live in the Northern UK. I can’t afford to go to Fairford every year (it usually costs me £200+ to get there etc…) and I go to Waddington because it is my “local” show at only 2 hours drive away.
Either it improves next year or that is me done with the show altogether—it reminds me of the old “Teesside Air shows, where people would be lured in with an impressive list of things on the flying list, only to find nothing flew “because of serviceability issues”
The organisers of Waddington need to be replaced or enhanced with someone who can entice other nations to visit here or it will die like so many other shows already have.
I read on this site that “we cannot force other nations to attend” and “we have written to them” etc…. well frankly it is not good enough—I want, no deserve, more from my armed forces—I would like to see where my tax pound is going without being ripped off by being forced to go to RIAT every year.
Now we hear even the Vulcan has cancelled, not due to technical issues, but getting its permit to fly issued—again this is not good enough—I am sorry but it isn’t—I like many people have committed considerable donations to the VTS team and I expect to see it in the air if it is obviously airworthy and not just grounded due to paperwork etc…That means another year will go by without me getting to see it—mmm—right after I renewed my club membership as well.
Let me see, I wonder if it will be on at Fairford??–mmmmm
In my opinion, Fairford needs to be split up into two air shows, one to be held at Fairford as normal, the other to be held at Waddington later in the year—that was people would have the chance to see both shows if they so wish and can afford it but it would give a more fair distribution of attendances for both shows. How many people can actually see Fairford in one day anyway???—it is so big it is hard to do this.
Waddington is a good venue, with good access and the potential to be a great show, but sadly this just is NOT HAPPENING ANYMORE.
PLEASE SORT THIS OUT FOR NEXT YEAR SO WE DONT WASTE ANY MORE MONEY TRAVELLING TO SEE NOTHING AGAIN
Mat, please post your comments on the Waddington thread, the organisers will appreciate your honesty.
cheers

Will someone be held accountable for this oversight? I mean it is an oversight, is it not? It certainly doesn’t look good to potential sponsors and listening to the chatter here at Waddington, it seems that there’s not a lot of faith in TVOC. Of course that’s only hearsay.

An Avro Lancaster just roared overhead my house, absolutely superb, thanks guys you made my day :D:D:D:D
We must be in close proximity to each other Vic as the BBMF lanc overflew my place at about that time. Low and uber cool. Everytime I see it, it rteminds me of the flying hours I have in her….I was a very lucky boy.:D

Christ super sioux I placed an extra “e” in the word “Helicopter” so shot me. Are you so sad that this is the only comment you can bring to the table so to speak?
Also I did not think i was i having a go about it attending the show? Simply i was stating i enjoyed it
P.s you place a “zero” as the first letter of your comment. The old saying “people who live in glass houses” springs to mind.:p
Don’t worry about it MM, he’s suffering enough by being from Stoke on Trent:D
Besides the normal wish list…Me262, FW190, Guinot Wing Walkers, etc what
about a “surprise flyby” of an a/c that is way out of the Flying Legends Theme…the Vulcan!Guinot Wing Walkers….I guess not…What a shame
http://www.aerosuperbatics.com/Display-Events/Schedule/http://%5B/URL]
I’ve got to ask…Why isn’t Vulcan a flying Legend? I’d say it was, being the LONGEST Airborne bombing raid in history at that time.

Cant see much from the TFC stable flying. 🙂
Why Ollie?
