Its from a series that was on Channel 5 a few years back. It was part of the first episode where they showed the differences between Spits and Me-109’s. The original footage had a Me-109 cockpit superimposed on it.
    That’s all i can remember!
    Hope it helps

The reason behind it is that the BBC did some amazing series in the eighties. I’ve only seen snipets of Fighter Pilot (i’ve got the book though) and Test Pilot on Youtube, my grandad has three episodes of Reaching for the skies on video. I think BBC 4 would be a better channel to show stuff like this.
And another series that i’d like to see again (this time on Channel 4) would be Classic Aircraft. I’ve got five episodes (i don’t know how many were made).:D

Here’s another one this time on Channel 4 (i think) I was three
(puts it at 1993) when it was shown and it was about F-14’s (i think from VF-84) it was a documentary but i’ve no clue other than i can remember a shot of a two Tomcats flying next to a snow capped mountain.

Quote: ‘There was a show repeated recently on History channel called Jetstream following a group of RCAF pilots learning to fly the CF/A18 Hornets at Cold Lake’

No it was definately about F-14s and carriers. I may have been young but my memory doesn’t fail me.

I remember Air Show with all those paper aeroplanes at the beginning. Fantastic show until they axed it! Just like ITV’s Coverage of RIAT that stopped! Same with Farnbourough (i can’t spell it). My dream would be that the BBC releases ALL of its old archive aviation (and military) film onto DVD.

I thought the BBC would’ve kept all there footage of interesting things, there archive is huge (supposedly). I didn’t know Hawks could fly at Mach 10! They kept that a secret.
Going back a bit, but still to do with aviation, what about Sailor, i know it was about RN carriers (well Ark Royal at least) and i’ve heard nothing but good things about it.

Just tryin’ to keep this thread alive!

Erm i think this thread has (apparently) ground to a halt (because there isn’t much to talk about). Anyway just watched a documentary (circa 1984) about Avro Shackletons, amazing photography and footage of 56 squadron Phantoms scrambling to intercept a Badger.

Anyone ever see the BBC docu RAF at 90 (or something like that) it was an hour and a half (or two) and it seemed to have the ‘random stock footage bug’ commonly found in aviation documentaries (the bug has been around forever). It showed Spits and Fw-190s getting shot down by there ‘own’ side. An example is that a shot of a Spit (or Hurri) is shown firing guns, it then cuts to a shot of an Fw-190 or Spit (or Bf-109G, even A6M2 Zero’s) blowing up.

I’ve got a picture of TSR-2 in flight, cleaned up and over a cloud deck. Plus one of a the rear of a TSR-2 in the factory.
I think there actual photos and not clever prints, one says Mar 65 on the back.

    XP568 CFS colours

Anyone got any pics of XP568 in CFS silver and orange colours? Because me and a mate (well actually two mates) of mine are working on XP568 and we’d like to know what she looked like.
At the moment she’s the world’s only nuclear capable, anti-flash white JP!

    Going slighty off tac

What about Warship? I know its about a fictious RN Leander class frigate (HMS Hero, but we all know that!). I’ve read the first book, but i’d like to know what happens after that!

I’ve written an e-mail to the BBC about the possibility of getting shows like Fighter pilot, Test pilot and Reaching for the skies onto DVD. So far Nothing!

    😀

Re: Air Show, there is a clip on youtube (I think it must be from that show) of Alain de Caddenet (spelling?) almost getting his hair cut by a Spit!

I’ve always thought that was from ‘Spitfire Jubliee’ at Duxford in 1996, bloody brilliant footage though!

Whatever happened to the ITV coverage of airshows like RIAT and Waddington? Topgun on tonight 9pm Film 4.

I’ve just got TSR-2: The Untold Story on DVD, it’s not as good as the video (which i gave to a friend for him to keep ARGGGHHH!), it has less footage of
TSR-2 and whats used is sped up shots that seem to repeat themselves.

‘Is that the one narrated by the late Richard Todd? Showed some nasty shots of Shakletons being burnt on a firedump?’ Quote

The one i’ve got wasn’t narrated by Richard Todd, but i’ve seen footage of the exact same docu and he is narrating it. Strange?

Does anyone have an RAF documentary (eighties) that has footage of VC-10’s, Tristars and Tornados (there’s a shot of two pointing towards the camera with there wings moving to full spread. If anyone has a DD video about the Gulf War, they’ll know what i mean.

DD video make some very good videos and DVD’s (except TSR-2: the untold story).
