    Hi Bex,

The altimeter is a Mk 29B servo.

It is paired with the Mk30 that is fitted to the Nav panel.

Part numbers varied to denote the various encoders fitted to the rear of the Mk30.

The numbers for a PR.7 are different to a PR.9 or a TT.18 but the basic instrument looks identical so any Mk29 can be fitted to the pilot panel of 773 and a Mk30 to your nav panel.

    Err..

I can honestly say that XH175 is not missing any major internals or externals.

However I can say that XH174 is a stripped shell of the fixer up type

    Hi Al,

Rotax Limited were part of Lucas and I think that they reverted to the Lucas fold in the mid 90s.

A number of the black and white sequences used in the documentary were from the 1952 film “The Gift Horse”.

    Hi Bex,

The J Switch is large round device to the left of the T1155.

Switch Unit Type J 10F/126 is used to connect the radio equipment to different aerials:

    D.F. – M.F. on fixed – Normal – H.F. on trailing – Earth

I have a spare one for my T1155/R1154 combination but it will not be cheap.

    Disadvantage

    Hi Dave,

A short pilot was the cause of at least two Coastal Command Losses.

    Blenheim IV
    N6193
    LA-N

    P/O R L Patterson
    Lt Ogilvie RN
    LAC A G Smith

Op: Recce, RAF Bircham Newton, Took off 1930.

Night mission to the coast of Holland from Texel to Borkum. The accident was attributed to the pilot being short of stature, encumbered by his Mae west, being unable to operate the fuel cocks resulting in an engine failure. P/O Patterson believed that there was insufficient fuel in the tank of the live engine to remain airborne while he manually pumped down the u/c and flaps so he bellylanded at 22:30 hrs, the aircraft catching fire in the crash after the u/c collapsed.

    18/12/43
    236 Sqn
    Beaufighter X
    LX858
    P

    F/O M G Seelly
    Sgt Owen

    Training, RAF North Coates

Undershot and ditched into mud flats after starboard engine failure during evasive action on a fighter affiliation 2 miles north of North Coates at 12:05 hrs.

The court of inquiry suggested that as the pilot was short of stature he had difficulty in controlling this type of aircraft and would be best employed on a different type.

    Sorry Graham,

My copy of the Instrument Manual (AP1275) was reprinted in January 1939 and incorporates amendments 1-5 up to that date. It has not been corrected beyond Jan 1939.

“26. Mark IX instruments are manufactured in accordance with Specification G.280, and are designated in Air Publication 1086 under the following references :-

    IXF 6A/587 Luminous 60 to 480 m.p.h.
    IXF 6A/588 Non Luminous 60 to 280 m.p.h.
    IXF* 6A/589 Luminous 50 to 420 knots
IXF* 6A/590 Non Luminous 50 to 420 knots”

    * after the letter as per the dial fascia denotes a knot version.

So in production and given a stores reference prior to Jan 1939.

    Ross

On my last visit to Stock there was a big hole in the scrap where the Andover had been.

I was told she had been shipped off to South Africa but I did not bother to ask for any more detail.

    Hi Fly.Buy,

When I was at Stock last year Steve had said that it had sold but the buyer had not yet closed the deal with the cash.

I got the impression that quite a time had passed.

    Hi Mick,

    Lovely piccys as always.

Just one question was the fitting of Maxarets and rudder pedals to the nav compartment requested by “windy navs” on the overrun?
