if the aircraft was once a complete airframe whats happened to all the other components over the years and why did the Air and Space museum remove it from display? unless it was lack of space there does anyone know the real reason?,its tragic when this happens to a classic aircraft, viewing the remains its not beyond restoration even just as a nose section, but if its being reoffered obviously people arent that interested and it could end up being scrapped or just forgotten, has anyone a photo of the aircraft in one piece please 😎 😎 😎

    bluestreak launch

the facilities at woomera were exactly the same as spadedams (naturally)and also the terrain looked similar so its an easy error to make we,ve all done it, i agree its a pity we never did a test launch in the UK ( neither did the blue water missile, i beleive that too was tested at woomera and both projects were cancelled) however at least all the test stands and facilities are still standing at spadedam as testament to the blue streak project, why in this country do we pioneer aviation innovations then lose heart in the final stages after spending millions developing them.IE TSR2,and nearly the lightning , we also allowed the patent to expire for the Harrier enabling the USA to produce their own variant through Mcdonnel Douglas we never learn. 😎 😎

Remember when the Lancaster NX611(now at the East Kirby Museum) was auctioned off up at Squires Gate in the seventies as part of the Reflectair Collection? well a Sabre jet that was part of the collection was purchased by a local farmer for his kids to play on unfortunately i dont have its serial number which wont help, but I wonder if it survived the kids sorties and is under wraps somewhere, incidentally does anyone know what happened to John roast the owner of the Reflectair Collection , who,d managed to have NX611 flown fourteen times whilst in his ownership, but lets not forget the sabre anyone out there remember the auction or the aircraft. 😎 😎

    buried aviation

in the 80s i was told about a large collection of RAF vehicles being buried in a huge pit at rufforth apparently there were humber staff cars and a few austin eights ,the pit was supposedly near to the firing butts which are situated at the end of the east west runway there, another story concerned a large collection of nose art panels from halifaxes being buried on rawcliffe airfield where most of the canadian kites ended up being scrapped .and finally there was my dads recollection of a huge quantity of lease lend tools being interred at thorpe arch ordnance factory nr wetherby just after the war ,l know of someone who found the piano from RAF Leemings officers mess buried in the dump there and a quantity of gas cylinders some of which were still charged and indeed went off 😎 😎 😎

    hi there v force
thanks for the info as i stated its just a story id heard some years ago and several other people have mentioned it too, however you have been to the source and found no trace so its probably just rumour ,i well remember the contoversy about nancekuke ,in the 60s i saw a documentary about it and there was another chemical weapons establishment mentioned in the programme but i forget the name 😎

    tu i44

i well remember the dramatic crash of this aircraft at the paris airshow that was down to pilot error i believe, amazing that the us chose this aircraft over concorde bearing in mind the very basic nuts and bolts technology that the russians tend to use ,they mothballed the tu144 after paris didnt they? 😎

    woolfox lodge

hi, the airfield was situated mostly in the parish of pickworth and constructed as a satellite field for nearby cottesmore, woolfox lodge manor nearby was requisitioned for use as aircrew accomodation and the airfield was thus named .the manor house was situated on the eastern side of the then A1 trunk road, and is still extant i believe ,i cant think why its not shown on the o/s map:cool: 😎 😎
