Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all, and best of luck in 2010, Darrell
Had coffee with 2 BCATP veterans, a 91 year old WAG who flew on Cansos hunting subs and an 87 year old FE on Lancasters, both are former Saskatchewan farm boys. The were interested to hear of the anniversary of all things yellow day.
I have a few parts from Merlins that were used to power speedboats and another friend and his dad used Merlins and Allison engines for use in Tractor Pulls for the annual Country fair! Darrell
W/C G. N. Irwin also hosted many famous people while on Bond tour drives, he also looked after “Buzz” Beurling as well.
Guy Gibson while on a Bond tour drive of Canada.
Well done , yes a Victory Aircraft built Lysander panel remains. I was visiting my good friend Vince O Connor and he supplied me with this piece. The story goes a scrapyard in Quebec in the 1970s still had Hurricane , Harvard and Lysander remains, a place where they had scrapped many. Jack Arnold bought all the Hurricane stuff and Vince bought the Lizzie stuff, I found it very odd how he wrote the date of Nov 22nd on the panel and 31 years later is handed to me, the Lizzie panel remains had been lost for a number of years and just reacquired recently by Vince and handed over to me which I was happy to take. Thanks for those that were interested, Darrell
Was amazed how good they treated us Peter, the hurri looked and flew awesome.
I highly recommend Stuart Hadaways book ” Missing Believed Killed”. Amazing read on the MRES units who had the job of recovering 55,000 missing airmen right after the war. I had the pleasure of knowing one of these gentlemen, my old neighbour RCAF F/L Angus Dixon, his widow let me look through his MRES notes and I have a great respect for these units and men who had to do that job, not for the faint of heart. Stuart goes on to say how Guy Gibson was identified by his name on his Battledress! Around 10,000 of these airman are still missing, a must read, cheers Darrell
Dave I would think S/P denotes Sergeant Pilot ? Darrell

Hello Jeremy, nice picture of the damage to the 109, hope you enjoyed the show, ok lets get this straight, the chap(what was he thinking?) across the highway or to the north eastern end has erected 2 poles within eye line of the runways? one being a flagpole. Is the pole within the legal bounds being so close to an active airfield, and well marked both visually and lighted for night, also I know there are briefings for that particular airshow so why wouldn t that be a topic for discussion with the pilots( ask fleet16b I think he flew there today) and lastly how come nobody else hit the pole with all that flying traffic this weekend? I hope the 109 gets airworthy soon and I suspect the ugliness is about to start in regards to the offending erection.
