Very inspiring to say the least! at the start of the war I believe these aircraft were in most supply for the RAF, it was sad there were no Mk 1s around until now, well done Colin, John and all you chaps at the “palace”, cheers Darrell
I knew an SOE pilot for the RAF, says they called that the “Joe hole” as nobody ever knew any names of the “jumpers”, he had flown 21 ops for the SOE.
Well local museum has 2 Shermans, guess I can check those, came with box of old aircraft gauges, thus check with you fellas first, thanks.
Thanks Al, I have Anson rims and these did not look like the ones I have, cheers Darrell
Upon looking for ads I found this magazine insert from the Toronto Star weekly from 1968, a story about the movie “Battle of Britain” imagine the actor Robert Shaw getting pointers from Ginger Lacey and Peter Townsend! not to mention Douglas Bader!!!
Yes esso had some great ad, these are from 1941, Canadian Aviation mags.
throttle money
Well I have discussed these historic items at length with Peter, and never surprises me where and when “stuff” turns up, I suspect will go for large coin, there is no priceguide for these items and of course the old supply and demand, myself included and everyone else has needed an item and had to pay to get it, but of course we all have had a “score” at the local yard sale for peanuts I am sure. I always am jealous of the chap who just spends loads of coin to buy something and just sqirrels the items away not to be seen like Peter does, so an arguement could be made about everyone seeing said items and items for museums, now most of you will agree you probably could have your own museums in your “garage” but how many people can enjoy it? food for thought anyway, but I am watching in earnest the Hally throttles and still seek the elusive Lanc control wheels from KB889 that was pinched, from the aircraft in the 1970s, cheers Darrell
Well done Dave, it never surprises me where stuff turns up, any other bits like the rear airframe or engines, undercarriage pieces for you to get? good luck with that, cheers Darrell
Yikes a follow up, 800,000 $ worth of pot, 122 kilos, nabbed at the Fort Erie / Buffalo bridge, was a load of commercial parts, well guess he wont do that again.
Yep just googled it, outside Duluth, Minnesota, I have a picture of that somewhere, an old trip in 1983, passed it by and took a photo, methinks there was more snow when I took the picture, google maps what a deal eh!
So Mike you have a complete roadside relics from Canada? could be interesting, Peter I guess we could google up Proctor golf course? Darrell
VooDoo sightings?
Hey Peter isnt there one like that near Duluth Minnesota, maybe near a 7/11? right on the main drag, cheers Darrell
Kentings Mossie BFP
Besides the obvious, a beautiful Kenting Mosquito Blind flying panel and various other small Mossie bits from Kentings spares, where is turretboy and Fleet16, tell us what they have? cheers Darrell
Boom?
Interesting, I guess that stuff will be forever found, pretty much cant find them all, I am always surprised more doesn t go off, how stable are those primers and arming switches? with all the “recent digs” I mean 1000 pounder make a big hole? an article recently a western Canadian Farmer was injured when handling a small practice ordinance buried on old base property and are they all concerned about the Channel where the Allies ditched the ones that were brought home, cheers Darrell
Thats the late Ken Gambles Harvard which sat out alongside highway 6 south of the 401, a mainstay along that stretch of road for 40 plus years! weather has taken its toll on the airframe,a nice addition to the museum, of course the beloved “Annie” doesn t get the credit its due as well, backbone of the BCATP for sure. Boeing and Canada Car made the bulk of the airframes and also to mention the many sub-assembly companies that contributed to the complete products, General Electric, Cockshutt, Massey-Harris to name a couple and many of the small furniture businesses with woodworks, quite a story in itself of the manufacture of these beauties, excellent pictures Mike, I should have a couple of 303s soon for my Boly turret that will make a nice display, Mike I will give you a shout next time I go to the museum, cheers Darrell
